...how the Gallery came about
I've
been a race fan since I went with my Dad to the 'Lady
Wigram' in about 1950 somthing. Of course I didn't know
much about racecars or any kind of cars for that matter,
well maybe pedal cars, I think I just got-off on the
noise. Then at about 12, too young to be a 'teddy boy',
'though I did have the lime green socks, a gang of us
used to hit the skids (the speedway), share a 10 pack of
Craven 'A' cork tip and soak up that glorious aromma of
caster oil. I can smell it now. Of course this was way
before Sim Gallery was thought of... internet even...
sliced bread even... It would seem I'm a sucker for
racing cars. Never had the opportunity to race a full
size car but done about every other kind of model car
racing... slot cars... R/C cars... and now computer sim
cars. I was wrapped when I found out about PAPYRUS and
Indianapolis 500 and you can guess the rest of the
story... Getting back to how the Gallery came about...
internet came along... offline came along... I had a run
with a couple of leagues... unfortunately my old steam
driven 586 just couldn't cut the mustard when it came to
competitive racing so I hung up the helmet and took up
photography... well capturing screens. The rest is
history as they say.
...the policies of the
Gallery
Firstly,
the Sim Gallery site was established for the enjoyment of
other sim racers and anyone who may just surf in who
likes to look at pictures. The Gallery has no commercial
benifit to me (well none that I have discovered as yet)
and has not been designed as a stepping stone to other
sim sites and nor does it provide any particular
information as the phrase 'the Information Super Highway'
may suggest. With this in mind you won't be taken away by
dozens of links, there is very little on offer to
download and there is no advertising (well not yet
anyway).
...what it will take to
keep the Gallery open
Most
of the 'screen shots' currently exhibited are mine in
case you haven't already guessed. I did this to get the
wheels rolling however it will take your contributions to
build the interest in the site. ie: you put up some of
your work... tell your buddies who put up some of their
works and so on. I have set down certain guidelines
(picture size, file size etc.) that you have to adhere to
and although you don't have to be a graphics wiz' you
still have to pull out your computer skills to come up
with good work. I have attempted to clear the mud on how
to go about taking these 'screen shots'. You also have
the opportunity to publish a few words by way of a
caption and accompanying text. There is a challenge here,
just as there is in racing those AI's.
...why the Australian
over-tones
I
guess it's because I live in Melbourne Australia. We have
a strong real racing scene here, including some catagorys
unique to Australia such as the V8 Super Cars. If you are
a little confused with some of my captions (and or text)
then I may be refering to real and not virtual racing.
You'll get it after a while.
...the credits
This
area is dedicated to all the artists and non-artists that
have contributed to these pages. Someone has painted all
the cars you see here. Someone has created the car sets.
Someone has built the track converters. etc.etc.. If you
see a car you have painted from a car set you may have
created and I have not credited you for this work then
please email me at [email protected] and let me
know.
