The Introduction

The Internet can be very useful for finding valuable information.  You will work with one other student and "surf the net."  You will go to different web sites and learn how they can be of use to you.  As you do the activities, you will fill in a worksheet that you will be able to use on your next trip to Cyberspace.

The Activities

Here are the activities for your trip in Cyberspace.  Follow the steps from 1 to 6 in order.

1.  Find a partner to work with and sit together to do the activities.

Click here to get your worksheets.

2.  It is important to eat nutritious and well balanced meals.  This web site will give you information on healthy eating.  Don't forget:  To do well at school and work, you must start every day with breakfast!

Click on Canada's Food Guide.

3.  The bus is a great way to get around the city whether you're going to school, to work, or to visit a friend.  You can buy single ride tickets, day passes, and monthly passes for the bus.  Find out more about Kitchener-Waterloo's transit system.

Click on Grand River Transit.

4.    What if you need to call your school to tell your teacher you're sick but you forget the phone number?  What if you want to mail a letter to your friend but you don't know his/her postal code?  You can find a phone number, an address, or a postal code on-line.

Click on Canada Directory Service.

5.  There are many learning resources available on-line too!  You can even look up words in the dictionary.

Click on the Student Dictionary.

6.  It's also important to get some fresh air and exercise!  Why don't you learn to do a new activity or join a special olympic team?

Click on the Special Olympic Site.

The Evaluation & The Conclusion

You and your partner must hand in all your work to your teacher so that he/she can see everything you've learned.  After your teacher looks at the information you've collected, he/she will give it back to you so that you can refer to it the next time you go on-line.

Here is a checklist of what you need to hand in:

*Your completed worksheets
*Canada's Food Guide chart

Congratulations!
The next time you want to find information on-line, you'l be a pro!

Keep your worksheet in a safe place so that you can use it the next time you're looking for information on-line.  You may go on-line with parents, friends, or group-home staff and show them what you've learned today.
