Thing to Know about Ribenheim
When creating a Character, please keep the following in mind: There is NO MAGIC in Ribenheim. The ONLY ELVES allowed are those that are part of the Elven Delegation. There are no Cross-Breeds of any sort in Ribenheim. WHICH MEANS...all Characters must be HUMAN! BUT... If you have an extremely creative, well thought out PLOT/Storyline Idea for a character that is NOT Human, please contact me first. REMEMBER... If you have a brilliant idea for a Character please let me know!
Race is a big issue in the World of Ribenheim, between Elves and Humans. Think of the US Civil Rights Movement period, and apply that sort of racial hatred between Blacks/Whites to the World of Ribenheim. Obviously, not everyone is a racist and would rather see a Dead Elf then an Elf in their local Tavern. But those nutjobs do exist in Ribenheim and even form their own Faction.
Ribenheim is host to an assortment of Factions. Imperialists - Those that support the Crown and the Bloodline of the Baldimere Family Various Noble Factions/Families - Nobles and their retinue and family that 'rule' their own 'petty Kingdoms' inside of Ribenheim. The same types of people who jump on every oppurtunity to gain an upper hand or advantage. Temple of the Sun - Devoute followers of the Sun God, members of this sect are not to be taken lightly. Black-Hood Rangers - Friends of Nature, these Woodsmen are expert trackers, hunters, and Marksman. Often employed to track down fugitives, they can be found almost everywhere. Others: Town/City Watch Local Militia Imperial Army / Navy
TECHNOLOGY Technology in Ribenheim should be early-mid Medieval ages. No steam-power, gunpowder, or anything like that. Arrows, Crossbows, Halberds, Spears, Swords, Knives, etc are all acceptable, along with various forms of Armor. MONEY Money in Ribenheim is called a DUCAT. 6 Ducats get you a warm meal and a drink at an Inn. 8 Ducats get you the above and a Room for the night. Slaves usually sell between 100 - 250 Ducats, depending on age, sex, etc.
The City of Ribenheim, despite its current splendor and size, had more humble beginnings then most would think. It started out as a Castle to control the region with a village springing up alongside it to sustain the needs of the Soldiers and their families. As land was cleared and the fertility of the region became known, the village began to grow. Once on the fringes of the Kingdom, it soon found itself in the safety of the Kingdoms interior. Only half of the Old City remains, along with its main gate. The other half was burnt down to the ground when a wharehouse caught fire and winds helped the flames spread. That area was rebuilt as the New District. With its population explosion, wealth of the region, and tranquility, the Royal Family decided to make Ribenheim City its home. The Noble and Merchant Districts sprung up around the arrival of the Royal Family, and a large Palace was constructed on the Southern end of the Island for the Royal Family to live in. The Old City walls were torn down, all but its Main Gate, as new ones were built. The Gatehouse has since been turned into a popular Inn despite its small size. The original village near the Castle was demolished and barracks and stables were set up for the much larger military force that moved into the city, along with training grounds for them to practice on. Bridges have replaced draw-bridges and the City Gates remain open both day and night, though always under watch. Only the Gates to the Palace close at sundown.
