of "Scared Shitless"
"...A form of a Salinger-esque, vaguely
existential contemplation on being a self-concerned kid, and the fragility of
a reasonable chance at love. And through that existential self-absorbtion,
the matter-of-factness that is conveyed through the words and therefore the
narrator's observations, the story works brilliantly -- because and
singularly because, it seems, the idiosyncrasies and nostalgic sweetnesses of
the piece, as well as the just out-and-out surreal (eg. the haunted
warehouse) are counterpointed perfectly by the dead-on perceptive quips,
factual exposition, the assured description that your narrator offers. That
playfulness, that dialogue between strange and fact-borne voice, really work
off each other. And so the piece is fun without ever being prosaic, and
essentially affecting because it renders the interminable ambiguities of life
and love into understandable, choppy thoughts -- reflections that work,
reflections that can be wholly recognized as universal and accessible...It's
good stuff." -- A review from
