Sonic
Chaos
Information
Background:
Sonic returns in an all new game called Sonic the Hedgehog Chaos (Sonic
Chaos for short), which is also known as Sonic and Tails in other countries.
As the second title suggests, Tails is now a playable character. Although
both Sonic and Tails play the same levels, only Sonic can collect the Chaos
Emeralds. Tails is considered for beginners and starts off with five
lives and five continues. Sonic, on the other hand, is harder and only
starts off with three lives.
Story: South Island is in trouble yet again. Dr. Robotnik
has found the Red Chaos Emerald, and if he gets them all he could turn them
into weapons. Now the other Chaos Emeralds have become unstable and
have entered a parallel universe. To top things off, South Island is
sinking into the ocean. Sonic and Tails must use all of their new tricks
to stop Dr. Robotnik and save the universe.
Levels: There are six levels:
Turquoise Hill Zone
Gigapolis Zone
Sleeping Egg Zone
Mecha Green Hill Zone
Aqua Planet Zone
Electric Egg Zone
Like the prior Sonic Game Gear games, each Zone has three Acts.
However, Chaos Emeralds cannot be found in the zones.
Chaos Emeralds: Since Robotnik has the sixth Chaos Emerald,
only five emeralds can be collected in the game. (Similar to previous
Sonic Game Gear games, Sonic cannot transform into Super Sonic.) To
collect a Chaos Emerald, Sonic must first obtain 100 rings in an Act.
The instant Sonic collects the 100th ring, he will be transported to a special
stage—or parallel universe. Once inside the special stage, Sonic must
find the Chaos Emerald before time runs out. If Sonic is able to find
all five Chaos Emeralds, he can get the sixth emerald from Robotnik.
Miscellaneous: The most notable move added in Sonic Chaos is the
super spin dash, which can be performed by Sonic and Tails. Tails can also
fly by pressing up and either button 1 or 2. To help Sonic and Tails with
their journey, pogo springs have been added, allowing both characters to bounce
their way across an act. Sonic also can break a video monitor (AKA item
box) to find rocket shoes, which will fly Sonic across the sky for a short period
of time.
There is a speed bonus for finishing Acts quickly. The faster you
finish the stage, the higher your bonus. This bonus is measured in
kilometers/hour and then multiplied by 10.
Finally, there are three endings to Sonic Chaos. Tails has only
one ending since he cannot collect the Chaos Emeralds. However, Sonic
has a good ending and a bad ending. If Sonic has the bad ending (i.e.
Try Again), no credits are displayed at the end of the game.
