Chaos and Time

Knothole stood silent as if it was midnight, the hour when no one dares to leave his home.
However, it was the middle of the day. Tails was not flying in the sky, nor Sonic speeding along
the grounds. In fact, Sally and her buddy/computer Nicole were nowhere in sight, and Bunnie and
Antoine could not be found. Only one person knew where they were, and that was Robotnik.  He had
put them in the time loop that they were all stuck in. The gang was in Knothole when Robotnik
tested his new creation (Pre-annihilator), a machine that can war reality, the fabric of time
and space. Robotnik programmed the Atomic Destroyer to destroy certain creatures with matching
DNA or Genetic Structures that were placed in the Atomic Destroyer hard drive. As it would seem,
all Mobians (The furry) would be destroyed. Robotnik sent a squad of robots near Knothole, so he
can fire his new device at the upcoming Freedom Fighters, and to make sure that the machine ONLY 
affects Mobians, and not his minions or himself for that matter.

Sally blinked. "Nicole, what is going on?"

"I am not sure, Sally. I sense that something has happened to our world, but I have not been
able to analyze the situation fully."

"So what do I do in the meantime?"

"Just wait, I guess."

"A computer can't guess. It has to know."

"Maybe I'm not a computer."

Sally sighed, refusing to put up with Nicole any more. Looking around, she noticed that
something was wrong. But she couldn't put her finger on it.

Looking around, she found Sonic with a chili dog in his hand. "Sonic!  Oh, I'm glad to see you
here."

"Sally, he is frozen."

"Frozen? But how?"

"Time seems to have stopped or does not exist anymore. We now exist in the third dimension not
the fourth, with out time, we can't move, function, or exist anywhere else at a given location
without time."

"Nicole..."

"Yes?"

"Then why are we okay?"

"Sally, it's in my technology to counter any primitive effects, produce holograms and
information that is still too complex for your mind to comprehend..."

"Thanks..."

"Do you wish me to explain the process Sally?"

"Please do."

"Very well. The fabrics of this dimension are like thick shield.  Normally this would be for the
better since it protects you from damage when under attack."

"So why is this a problem?"

"When you are hurt, the shield disappears and you continue forward.  However, the shield stays
here. In fact, the shield is so thick that it could protect you even if Mobius exploded."

"Is that good?"

"Yes and no. You see, Sonic is frozen because the shield traps him into one place. He barely has
enough room to breathe and within a matter of hours, he will die from suffocation. My technology
sends a counter shield, allowing you to breathe and move within reason."

"Within reason?"

"Within reason.  Meaning that you can only move or function as you did when all was in normal
time flow.  This means you can't fly, climb the frozen air molecules into the atmosphere walk on
water, you get the idea Sally, right?"

"Ahh, so I can only to things that I could do only if time still flowed correctly?"

"Affirmative"

"Okay so what do we do now Nicole?"

"We must find the source of this loop and neutralize it Sally. Since this is a loop, there is no
beginning or end... But there is an exit and entrance existing... We must move the exit over
here. Since this is a loop, the exit can exist anywhere, the properties of this loop is almost
like a Zone created by a chaos emerald. Think if Sonic was in a game and one pressed "pause" and
all stood still except for you. That is the situation we are in, Sally."

"So how do we find an exit?"

"Since the exit may exist in an infinite number if possibilities and places it may be impossible
to find it in a matter of a few hours without Sonic's speed. Therefore there's only one
alternative to this. You must find something that can disrupt reality. Something that can
disrupt an orderly equation such as time stop and throw it out of balance. In short, going back
to the game analogy, a short circuit to reset the game... In our case, reset time to BEFORE this
happened. Something that can't be controlled, something this powerful... Robotnik must have used
the same power to warp reality."

"But, Nicole, what can warp reality? Let alone have all that power to
stop ti--"

Sally thinks for a minute and at the same instant...

Sally and Nicole:  "A Chaos Emerald!!!"

Sally:  "But where can we find one, rings alone are hard to find and rare enough as it is... How
can we find a chaos emerald?"

Nicole:  "There are two choices. First we can go to Robotropolis to get the emerald Robotnik may
have used... But since the Emerald is there, Robotnik may not be frozen, nor his troops... Or we
can get to the floating island, and use Knuckles... But once we restore time, the island will
fall."

"Then what do we do Nicole? We don't know where the exit may be!"

"... Well, Sally, I suggest that we take a chance with our lives and go to Robotropolis. If we
go to the Floating Island, we risk millions of lives. We only risk our own if we go to
Robotropolis."

"Then for the sake of our lives, let's head off!"

Sally began to walk, holding Nicole in front of her. The journey was hard since she had to walk,
making sure to avoid the other freedom fighters along the way, frozen in their tracks. Looking
up in the air, Sally noticed Tails with a grin on his face.

"So even if you're disturbing time at the time it's frozen, you can still be frozen, right?"

"You are seeing it with your own eyes, are you not?"

Sally smiled. "I suppose so . . . but that doesn't mean that I believe it."

After hours of walking, Sally finally made it to Robotropolis.  To her surprise, it appeared
that the swat-bots were still, working motionlessly.

"Freeze, intruder!" a voice yelled. Sally had no choice but to stick her hands up in the air.

Sally was captured by a regiment of soldiers...Sally was led to the holding cells, as the dim
lights flickered lightly and the low hum of the reactors, there crept a fear over Sally. The
fear of if she failed, she will be left alive if she escaped... and no one will be there in
Knothole. Tails wouldn't call her Aunt Sally anymore, Bunnie would never tell her the latest
gossip in the village, she would never hear Antoine's terrible accent, or Rotor's explanation
of his wonderful inventions or ideas, or never get mad at that annoying hedgehog, or scold him
when Knuckles comes along... The world would die!!! And she would be left al alone in a world of
silent voices, a world of weapons and machines...

"Get in there you Mobian!!!"

Sally was thrown into a holding cell.

"ZZAPRT"

The electric fields went on and the cell was locked by electric bars...Sally pulled out Nicole
that had fell into her vest pocket when she raised up her hands...

"Nicole..."

*Click* *Chimes*  "I'm here Sally"

"What do we do? The smell of gas and smoke is awful--I can hardly breathe!"

"It seems that the pollutants in the oxygen that you are using to breathe is irritating your
lungs..."

"This smell is making me sick"

"I detect that the gas is coming from a leak about 67 degrees and 32 minutes to your left..."

*Sally turns and sees a tank of gasoline that has a crack near the wall right by a large control
panel*

"Nicole, can you detect to see if that is a power box?"

"Affirmative, it controls sector 3, 5, and 8's powergrid. The power will be shut down here if
disabled."

*The electric bars flickered*

"Nicole, if I threw a projectile at the bars, and the sparks that flew, resulting of the impact,
ignited the gas... Will the panel be disabled?"

"Affirmative, but also... There is a high risk factor that we also will not survive the
explosion"

"What are our alternatives?"

"Sally, we can do this, or wait until a swat-bot comes and I can disarm it, then free ourselves
that way. But the time is of the essence, and the explosion would announce our presence to
Robotnik that we are uncontained."

"But Nicole! How did you shut off earlier, with me still breathing? I was in your shield!"

"You are breathing without my efforts because of the presence of a chaos emerald. It seems that
an emerald has an effect radius."

"So if we can get close to Sonic they will be free?"

"Yes."

"And if we move Robotnik out of the effect radius, he will be frozen?"

"Yes."

"So we need that emerald no matter what... SO does that mean Knuckles is active?"

"Yes, but if he tries to leave the island, he will be in stasis"

*Sally brightens up*  "I have an IDEA!!!"

"Yes?"

"If there is motion there is an emerald right? So that means it is a exit!!!"

"That is a possibility..."

"All we have to do is get the floating island to hover over.  How long will it be till the
island passes?"

"The island is not in a direct course, but if it does passes, then that is the only exit that we
can use because the emerald Robotnik used is the entrance."

"Nicole! We have to get back to the place! How long will it take?"

"From 5 hours to a month... My sensors can't work very well in this environment..."

*Footsteps are herd, the echo of 3 or 4 swat-bots...*

"Sally, do you blow up the panel, or do we try your luck with the bots?  Both ways look pretty
grim, and the island may pass.... We need the other Emerald to get to the island though... It
is floating, Sally"

"Nicole, prepare your laser."

"Yes, Sally."

"The swat-bots won't expect you here, so on my mark, prepare to shoot."

"Yes, Sally."

The swat-bots approached, their footsteps sounding closer and closer.

"Now!"

Sally ducked, shoving Nicole above her head.  Nicole fired, her laser breaking the visor on each
swat-bot's head.

"Any more, Nicole?"

"I do not detect any more swat-bots."

"Great."

Sally carefully reached between the electric bars, pulling the swat-bot's arm into the cell.
She took out a connector and attacked one end to Nicole and the other into the swat-bot's arm.

"Nicole, tap into the memory of the swat-bot."

"Yes, Sally. . . .  Memory accessed."

"Locate the chaos emerald."

"Searching. . . .  The chaos emerald is in Robotnik's possession."

"Where at?"

"Sections 45 and 46."

"That doesn't sound familiar."

"That is Robotnik's sleeping area.  Only one of many."

"Is he asleep?"

"Yes."

"That's strange.  Why sleep during the day?  He's always awake when we do our missions."

"Normally, I would say that the pollution has prevented us from seeing the real time.  However,
this is not the case.  The particles of light from the sun have also been frozen, just like
Sonic and the others."

"So what time is it really?"

"One o'clock AM."

"Well, that's the least of our worries.  Nicole, can your shield stand against these bars?"

"I assume so.  If you jump quickly, you may not feel an after-shock."

"Activate your shield, Nicole."

"Activating."

"I will jump on the count of three.  One, two, three!"

Sally jumped through the bars, shaking lightly as she fell to the ground.

"I don't think Sonic could have jumped fast enough to prevent that."

"I know.  I was just trying to encourage you to jump now.  Our time is dwindling."

"But you didn't have to lie."

"I didn't lie, I was just coloring the truth."

"Nicole, you've been around Sonic too long.  The worst part of his personality is beginning to
wear off on you.  Now, lead me to Robotnik."

Nicole began rattling off the directions, and Sally took the quickest route to Robotnik's
sleeping area.  Jumping out of the air duct, Sally looked around.  Seeing that there were no
swat-bots, Sally found the emerald and grabbed it . . .

*As the emerald left the stand, the room blared with explosive blasts of noise and sirens*

"Nicole!!!"

"Sally?"

"What do we do?"

*At that moment, Sally was trapped, swat-bots all around her, and Robotnik himself stood in
front*

Robotnik:  "Ah, dear chipmunk, why are you in my humble abode?"

*Sally just glared back*

"Oh, not talkative are we? Well then I guess I will have to use THIS!"

*Robotnik took out the TRUE emerald from under his cloths*

Sally:  "WHA?!?"

"Ah, you see, who would leave such power out in the open like that? I was expecting Sonic, but,
my dear, is more valuable to me. What you have there is just a lovely bit of glass..."

*Sally looked around. The room was dimly lit, it seems that the fat guy was sleeping after all.
With the emerald....Ewwwwewee...GROSS!!! The lights were all off... The lights that lit up the
chamber was radiating from the many swat-bots surrounding her. The little lights on top of their
heads, blinking all in unison. Arms poised with phasers, ready to fire at a moments notice. All
the phasers, pointing straight to her heart.*

"Ahh our time grows short, and I tire of this silent game from you,  princess." Yawned Robotnik
"Swat-bots, when I say fire..."

"Nicole..." whispers Sally "Did you hear Robotnik? I have an idea..."

"Sally? Yes, his voice is stored into my banks but I do not compute what good that will do you
now..."

"Nicole, just simulate Robotnik's voice, saying 'FIRE' okay?"

"Affirmative Sally"

"At the count of 2, say fire. When Robotnik counts to two"

"Sally, I'm not an idiot. I know what you mean Sally..."

"Well my dear" Robotnik cooed "Are you ready to join your family in that great tree in the sky?
I have watched you long enough talk to yourself, and I have concluded that you are weighing the
options of how to escape...But you see, I have won this time. And since I have this magnificent
stone in my possession, you can't leave without being frozen. Ahh, lucky me! Now how you were to
make it here and escape I will never find out, but oh well, I'll be happy with a new foot
dryer... You do have nice fur, chipmunk."

"Oh, sorry 'botnik, I couldn't hear you... I was talking to myself."

"WHAT?!? INCOLENT LITTLE CREATURE!!! Swat-bots at my mark!!!!"

"Nicole...."

"ONE!!!!!"

"Yes, Sally..."

"TWO!!!!!"

Robotnik's simulated voice: "FIRE!!!!!!!!"

Robotnik:  "WHAT!!!???!"

*The swat-bots open fired at Sally, who was crouched down when two had been called... All the
phasers went off in perfect unison and aimed for the spot that WAS occupied by Sally's heart.
Instead, Sally threw up the glass emerald, and all the phasers hit it. A terrific blast of
blinding light radiated from the fake emerald that the bots' sensors overloaded and crashed
while Robotnik, just waking up into the darkness, Cried out in pain and fury as he blindly fired
his phaser around the chamber. In all the commotion the emerald was dropped and sally dived for
it*

"I got it!!!"

*THUD, Sally landed onto the metallic floor*

*Just then Robotnik aimed at Sally...*

"STOP!!! Take another step and you are one crispy critter you annoying mammal!"

*Sally froze and turned and saw Robotnik pick up the glowing emerald...*

"Seems that you still got the wrong one, Sally... Now time to DIE!!!"

*Robotnik forced his laser at Sally* "NO!!!"

*Sally stumbled back and closed her eyes as Robotnik's emerald dimmed...*

*She waited for the pain, the burning pain, the heat of the blast, she though of Tails, his
innocent smile, Bunny and her 'sughar' attitude, Antoine that was always for a good laugh, Rotor
with his wacky ways to do simple things, and her Hedgehog...Frozen... with his food...*

"Sally"

"Nicole? Are you in heaven too?"

"Sally, we are not in heaven..."

"You mean we are in!!!!"

"SALLY!!!"

*Sally opens her eyes and gasps*

"What happened?!!!"

*The laser beam, frozen in front of her face*

"Sally, you must have gotten the real emerald..."

"But I saw it glow, the one robot..."

"Sally, the glass must have absorb the phaser and was still releasing it..."

*Sally looked, the emerald, the one she had was 10 feet away, she dropped it when she stumbled
back..."

"Sally, we are in the range of the Chaos Emerald's power, and so close was the laser to you...
If the emerald rolled one inch less, the laser would have not been frozen and..."

"I know Nicole... LET'S GET OUTTA HERE!!!!"

*Sally grabbed the emerald and turned back and saw the chilling scene...*

"I was sooo close..."

"Sally?"

"Nicole, umm, thanks."

"For what Sally"

"For just being there."

"You're welcome Sally."

"Nicole do you have any ideas to get to the island?"

"Sally, this emerald was used in the machine, so that means I can use it, since the emerald is
already accustomed to technology..."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"Okay Nicole."

*Sally placed the gem on top of Nicole's circuits*

"The island is at 10 mile altitude currently and is traveling at a velocity of 12 meters per
second, in the north western hemisphere in a 47 degree angle..."

"Nicole what does that mean?"

"Sally, just don't move"

"Huh?"

"Placing coordinates into the emerald"

*Green lights swirled around the two as the scene melted away before them and melded together
into a chamber of crystal...*

Silver: "On no!!! Double Wag, look!"

Double Wag: "Dang! They'll see the story's end! Silver here's the book, finish it, I'll take
care of them"

Sally: "Who are you?"

"That's is not of your concern at the moment, if you wanna save your friends, I suggest you go
up... The island's surface it up there..." 

*DW points up*

Nicole: "Sally, the two beings here are great in power, I believe that they can stop this
loop..."

Sally: "Can you?"

Double Wag: "Err," Calls out to Silver: "Is that what you wrote?"

Silver: "NO!!!"

Double Wag: "Sorry, you gotta go..."

Sally: "But yo-"

"Bye, Sally"

*At a wave of the hand, Sally and Nicole find themselves on top of the island nearing the
mainland*

Sally: "What was that Nicole?"

"It was a displacement effect"

"Mobian Nicole, speak Mobian"

"A high class teleport ability"

"Oh"

"Well we are here... Now where is the emerald... We have to find Knuckles...I hope he is not
frozen..."

*In the crystal chamber*

DW:"WOW! That was close!"

Silver:  "Yeah, so what is going to happen now?"

DW:  "I dunno, but I'm beat, I've been writing in this story... You finish up..."

Silver:  "Naw! We started it, we finish it..."

DW:  "Okay, okay. Just do your part and I'll finish mine up..."

Silver:  "Okay..."

DW:  "Kool, now I gonna go to bed"

Silver:  "Silly Fox!"

"Heh"

*DW turns around to Silver*

"Don't kill them now..."

"Oops!" Silver starts to erase...

"Good night"

"Or good morning"

"Whatever!"

Under breath:  "Silly fox..."

*Back to Sally and Nicole*

"How are we going to find Knuckles if time is frozen?" Sally sighed, sitting on the ground.

"Sally, you're not giving up, are you?" Nicole gasped.

"No, I'm just resting . . . for a very long time. . . ."

"Sally, I detect a disturbance in the molecules surrounding us."

"Say what?"

"Something is coming."

All of the sudden a cloud of smoke appeared and Knuckles stepped out as if nothing had happened!

Sally's mouth dropped open.  "Knuckles!  If time is still, how come you can move?"

Knuckles smiled.  "Well, Nicole can help you move because of her built-in technology.  I can
move because Archy is with me.  Fire ants are good at that sort of thing."

Archy smiled.  "Been in the family for generations.  That's why we're useful to echidnas."

"But not so good at getting to the point.  Why are you here, Princess Sally?"

Sally stood up from the ground.  "We have determined that the only way to fix what's going on is
to find a chaos emerald to counter-act this disturbance.  Robotnik had one so we tried to steal
one from him."

"And I see it there on top of Nicole.  But why are you here?"

"We need your help and the use of your chaos emerald so we can end this once and for all!"

"Wait, isn't one emerald enough?"

"Possibly," Nicole spoke up.  "You see, Knuckles, this emerald has adapted to technology.  We
need one that is adapted to nature."

"But my chaos emerald is used for technology . . . sort of."

"But it hasn't been polluted.  I think that if we place the two chaos emeralds together near
Robotnik's machine, we will be able to destroy it.  Then we will use them to repair time."

"And how are you going to do that?"

"At this time, I do not know."

"Sally, your computer may have some brains, but when we restore time, the Floating Island will
sink!  I can't risk the lives of the people on my island!"

"Knuckles, we have taken that into consideration," Sally said, taking over for Nicole.  "You can
grab the emerald and have Archy teleport you back to the Floating Island just in the nick of
time."

Archy nervously shook his head.  "I'm no Sonic the Hedgehog, but I can try."

"Great."

Knuckles frowned.  "I thought you were on my side."

"It's time to fix what's going on.  Otherwise you could die in a frozen world."

"Then take me to the chaos emerald.  Sally, you and Nicole wait here."

*Knuckles disappears in a cloud of smoke.*

"Good thinking, Sally," Nicole replied.  "I had not yet taken that into consideration."

"Thank you Nicole. . . .  I'm just glad Archy was able to put the final word in."

*The cloud appears again, and Knuckles returns with a large chaos emerald in his hands*

"Are you ready, Sally?"

"Yes, Knuckles."

"Okay, Archy!  Do your thing!"

Archy concentrated, making everyone disappear from the Floating Island and return to
Robotropolis.

"That was a bumpy ride!" Knuckles said, then looked at Sally.  "So, what do we do now?"

"We have to find that machine... It has to be somewhere high enough to encompass the whole
planet and hit Knothole at the angle the blast occurred..."

Archy:  "But Sally, a machine like that would be very immense and how could one miss such an
obvious structure?"

"Well, true... but it has to be somewhere around here somewhere... Maybe the roof?"

*The group led by Sally made their way to the top of the building... The humming of machines
greeted them as they made their way through the labyrinth of wires and scrap metal parts...
Although the trek took only 5 minutes, it seemed like an eternity... Time was all they had, and
it was working against them...*

Knuckles:  "Where here!"

Sally:  "Okay... behind this door...."

*Sally opened the metal door with a series of numeric combinations...*

"Come on...."

*Beep beep....BZZZT....bump...*

"!!!"

*The door slowly starts to open... As the doors open, the utter most zenith of Robotropolis
greets them along with...*

Sally: "NOTHING!!!"

*The cold mist frozen it time, lingered in front of the group... As Sally stepped closer, the
mist moved, swirled about...*

"Nothing... There is nothing here!"

Knuckles:  "What?!? There has to be something! Where is the machine? It has to be here! This is
the highest place in Mobius! Where else could the machine be?"

"Think it has to be somewhere high enough to hit Knothole... And yet big enough to support that
machine... If it is not here... it has to be directly behind Knothole! But that makes no
sense..."

"Yeah... The only thing behind you is the ocean."

"Can it be under--"

Nicole:  "No Sally. Remember it has to be at a high enough altitude to hit precisely where it
did... The reference angle of the hit indicates that the evaluation has to be higher than the
mountain ridge... But the range of the source can't exceed to outer space."

Archy:  "True. And so the source of this time break seems to be a mystery...Where could Robotnik
have placed such a large machine?"

Sally:  "How big do you estimate it to be?"

Archy:  "About the size of knothole itself..."

Sally:  "WHAT???"

Nicole:  "You see Sally, a machine like that must have a rather large hard-drive to hold the
exact calculations to set off the disrupting ray..."

Archy:  "And it must have an output device strong enough to negate any air friction or foreign
projectiles..."

Nicole:  "But it must have a large RAM unit to keep up its work on a global scale without
crashing... with the power source an emerald"

Archy:  "And a battery that can hold the chaos energy not to mention the fuel it takes to run
the machine long enough to kill the living on the planet..."

Sally:  "Okay! Okay!"

Knux:  "So where the.... oh my..."

*Knuckles' face ashen... his eyes, locked onto a floating object*

*Sally turns around*

"No! Knux, it is not..."

Knux:  "The FLOATING ISLAND!!!"

Archy:  "What? It can't be the island..."

Nicole:  "I'm afraid that it is the only place..."

Knux:  "But how? Who? When? Where?"

Sally:  "Knux, if it's on the island, maybe those two other people will help us..."

"What two other people Sally?"

Archy:  "Yes... Only we fire ants and the guardian isn't frozen..."

"Nicole, tell them."

Nicole:  "Two beings, writing...In a book. One looked like a cross between a hedgehog and a fox,
and the younger one I presume looked a lot like tails except for one distinct feature... The
being had-"

Archy:  "Wings."

Nicole:  "Correct..."

Knuckles:  "What? What are you talking about Archy?"

"Remember Athair?"

"Yeah"

"He speaks for the Walkers..."

"And?"

"And the beings that are on the island are not the Walkers but are like Guardians... Remember
the Brotherhood?"

"Yeah"

"It's a group like that..."

"Oh... So why haven't I seen them around?"

"I don't know."

Sally:  "Gosh, what are you talking about? You mean that the fate of Mobius is being written as
we speak? No way!!! It's impossible!"

*A bright flash of light explodes around the group*

Knux:  "This is the Crystal Chamber... But I do not recognize this part..."

Archy:  "Because it was sealed off..."

"What?"

"Sealed off. It seemed that Robotnik did not create the original machine...HE updated this
machine that the echidnas made a long time ago... A way to try to stop the incoming comet..."

Knux:  "So Robotnik got the codes to tap into this lost knowledge and he deciphered this and
used it! So the source was the island..."

Sally:  "So this is why fireants have this immunity.... You have lived with it so long,
generation after generation, you have built an immunity to the radiation the machine produces..."

Nicole:  "Thus eliminating the machine's effect."

Knux:  "So where is this machine anyway?"

Archy:  "It was the island itself..."

"WHAT??!!??"

"It all started with Guardian Hawking and his machine to transport the island to another
dimension..."

"But the island didn't go... Echidanopolis did!"

"Because Hawking could not get the machine strong enough..."

"How did he make this? Maybe we can stop it."

"Hawking didn't know how it worked... It was given to him..."

"By who?"

"A representative of the council... The one who knew about magic and time flows... A fox with
wings..."

"Why didn't you tell me this?"

"It was just a story..."

Sally:  "So, how do we stop this machine... Hunt down this being that resides on the island?"

Archy:  "Sally, I do not know. This must have a reason.... Why would they just stand back and
watch Mobius die?"

Nicole:  "According to your history... There is always a day of Fury..."

Knux:  "Yeah. We just passed it like a year ago or something like that..."

Nicole:  "So in short this is a test to see if the Mobian race is acceptable..."

Sally:  "Wha? But we aren't the traitors! It's the overlanders!"

Nicole:  "We don't own this world... But some of your kind has betrayed the throne... Joined

created the roboticizer... You didn't want to sacrifice you stuff because you figured that you
were the masters of this planet so you created a machine to stop time so you can take your home
away from nature's wrath... Sally... when was the last time you saw Rotor make a toy? Or see
Bunnie without weapons.... Or Antoine without his sword? Mobius has become a planet of war. The
island is a living example, Haven and Dark Legion..."

Sally:  "So you think that we have become consumed by war?"

Nicole:  "Yes. And the one that represents the future... Tails... The youngest... All he knows
how to do is fight against Robotnik. His childhood and his life revolved around fighting."

Sally:  "But that's different... We are fighting for a peaceful future! We are all friends and
we are a family!"

Nicole:  "You remember Tails' smile? That's innocence. He does it for a peaceful future... In
your heart you are doing it for revenge... Your father's death."

*Sally is wounded by the words...*

"It's all true... It is..."

Nicole:  "Time is of the essence, you must end this!"

Sally:  "How?"

Nicole:  "The emerald is the thing that is making this all happen..."

Knux:  "NO WAY!!! That's impossible!"

Archy:  "It's not. It was the echidnas that tried to use the emerald...Erajak is merely the one
recorded in history."

Knux:  "You mean... We made an emerald?!?!?!?!"

Archy:  "Yes... It was against Athair's wishes... The Walkers forbade us to do it... But
likewise they gave us the choice to do it..."

Knux:  "But how did anyone figure out how to?"

Archy:  "The being gave it to us in hopes that we may use this power to help create... Echidnas
are the most advanced race... But still primitive intentions..."

"So what is this? A game? A test? WHAT?"

Nicole and Archy:  "You know what you must do..."

Sally and Knux:  "But the island will fall... And lives will be lost. And Robotnik will win and
the planet will die!!!"

A&N:  "Lives are lost, so in war. It's is a balance... You created life, and you tipped the
scales... Now it is time to pay back what you have taken."

S&K:  "Why? What about..."

A&N:  "The lives? Oh, they will be safe. Actually you two are the only ones on the island..."

K:  "But we created this, What about all the good?"

A&N:  "What good? You echidnas have sealed you race off from the rest of Mobius. You kept this
"good" for yourself."

Sally:  "You mean that the island and the emerald is the source of this all?"

A&N: As with the roboticizer... You see things happen for a reason. All opposite and equal
forces balance each other out... Some have a more terrible backlash than others..."

Sally:  "But if we destroy the emerald... the roboticizer will not work... the island will
fall... And and and... All will be as it was before Robotnik. No weapons, safe streets, and
Robotroplis would fall..."

Knux:  "Sally what are you talking about?"

Sally:  "Don't you see? We are fighting for the wrong reason... We are creating weapons instead
of destroying them! That is what Robotnik wants!"

Knux:  "But... My duties... to the island..."

Sally:  "Does you duties outweigh the lives of all Mobians?"

*Knux looks shocked*

Knux:  "So you mean that the way to end this war is to destroy the weapons?"

Sally:  "How else would one fight? Without weapons..."

Knux:  "And Robotnik would have nothing to rely on..."

Sally:  "Funny, how all the weapons Robotnik used were ones that we created..."

Knux:  "This feels like a bad dream."

Sally:  "Yeah... But it's the truth, and now I'll fight for the future... Not for the past, not
for revenge clouding my sight. For a new future, and to know our place in the universe."

Knux:  "Well, Sally, it looks like this is the end."

Sally:" Yeah..."

*The two hold the emerald that has been tainted over the decades with the technology of
destruction...*

Knux:  "To the future..."

Sally:  "To leave the past..."

*They raise the emerald high*

S&K:  "We will not misuse the powers granted to us to help protect. Not to harm and to cheat
life or nature..."

*They shatter the emerald onto the chamber's floor"

S&K:  "This is the will of the Mobian Race! Together as one and to protect and not destroy, for
the future!"

*The island begins to fall as the other emerald fades out of existence...*

Knux:  "Goodbye Sal"

Sally:  "Goodbye Knux"

*Time rushes over Mobius... Robotnik's laser goes off... Sonic bites his chilidog, Tails finds
his way to Knothole... The island crashes into the water... and sinks beneath the surface...*

"HUH?"

*Sally wakes up... on the ground*

"What happened? Where am I?"

*Sally looks around and to her heart's content she sees Knothole and Sonic and the gang just
kickin' it at the campsite...*

"Nicole, what happened?"

Nicole:  "I believe you fell asleep..."

Sally:  "I had a terrific dream, it was so real..."

Nicole:  "Of course..."

*Sally feels a tug on her vest* "Tails?"

Tails:  "Aunt Sally, will you read me a story tonight?"

*Sally eyes water up... Such an innocent request... Out of love... not war, revenge...*

"Sure Tails. Later on okay?"

"Yeah!!! I see you then!"

*Tails flies off happily*

*Sally looks up...*

"Father, wherever you are... Help me see my true goal... I miss you."

*A wind blows behind Sally as she bows her head... She opens her eyes and sees a feather float
past...*

"!!!"

*Sally turns around*

"...!"

*Tails is there with wings... Is it Tails?*

???:  "Remember to keep your promise to Tails..."

"I will."

*The fox nods his head... Smiles and points up*

*A fox and hedgehog being sits on the floating island... closing on the mainland. Knux stares at
Sally in awe... He knows.*

*Sally turns around...*

*The fox is gone and so is the other...*

*Sally laughs quietly to herself*

"Knux!!! Come down and join us!"

Knux:  "Sure! I got to tell you of the weirdest dream I had!"

*Sally smiles*

*Later that night*

*Tails is on his bed...*

*Sally:  "Hey Tails, you want me to read to you?"

Tails:  "Would you Aunt Sally? I never got a book read to me before... Not since I can remember
my mom..."

*Sally smiles...looks to the sky with the island passing into the moon lit night*

Sally:  "Pick a book Tails."

"Aunt Sally...Thanks"

*Sally read Tails his first story since the war... and the stars lit up the night in the
distance as a bright age of Mobius begun*

DW:  "And that is where I will close the history of Mobius."

Silver: "You're going to end it like that?"

DW: "Yeah, of course."

Silver: "It's sort of . . . deep.  Do you think they'll understand?"

DW: "Let them think what they'd like.  As long as they've thought about something."

Silver: "You may be right. . ."

*The two beings vanish into the darkness... Only a blank book remains*
