There are six
mini-series that relate to the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. In most
cases, these mini-series were created in response to fans wanting to see
more of a character. For example, there were many requests asking for
Tails to have his own mini-series. In some cases, the mini-series paved
the way to a yearly comic.

After the increasing popularity of the free issue #1/4, Archie Comics republished the issue with the #0 (number zero) for a Sonic the Hedgehog mini-series. The series became popular, and after the mini-series was completed, Archie Comics began producing the Sonic the Hedgehog comic every month.

Background Information:
Knuckles grew in popularity and fans demanded to see more of the red echidna. Before Knuckles could experience his mini-series, he had to first learn some echidna history. These events of echidna history were chronicled in a three-part story called "A Sense of History," which is seen in Sonic the Hedgehog #34, Sonic #35, and Sonic #36. Armed with this knowledge, Knuckles is ready to search for The Chaotix, who were kidnapped in Knuckles' Chaotix.
