Super Mario Sunshine
REVIEW
Concept Super Mario's first adventure on the Gamecube takes him to a tropical island. He is framed by a shadow version of himself, and is forced to clean the entire island of goop. On top of that, Princess Peach is kidnapped (surprise, surprise). That's the storyline of Super Mario Sunshine, one of Mario's best adventures yet. It also introduces the FLUDD, a super quirtgun that Mario wears as a backpack, and is used to defeat enemies and to solve puzzles. Score: 5/5 Graphics Mario and the environment look great in this installment of the series. You really feel like you are on a hot tropical island, with heat effects. There are lots of places to go, each with its own style. Score: 5/5 Sound Catchy Mario tunes abound in all of the areas you visit, and classic Mario sound effects are everywhere. Just what you expected, perfectly done. Score: 5/5 Entertainment Since when has a Mario game not been fun? There's lots to do, from collecting the Shine Sprites, to cleaning up goop, to exploring new areas, to spraying the locals with your FLUDD. OK, maybe that's just me. Score: 5/5 Playability Several of Mario's more complex jumps are more easily pulled off in this game. The FLUDD also has very intuitive controls and is fun to use. Score: 5/5 Replay Value Moderate. Once you've found a Shine Sprite, it's not much fun to find it a second time in another game file. There just isn't much incentive to play through again. Score: 3/5 OVERALL: 9.3/10
