I am a proponent of strategy guides.  They're filled with all kinds of useful information, and can really help get you out of a sticky situation or just give you a cheat code to help you advance faster, easier, whatever.  Obviously, though it depends on the game though.  Platformers generally just have a walkthrough and maybe a couple of secrets, because usually they don't.  Some games don't really have a plot or any real secrets at all, and that kind of guide is more like a detailed instruction booklet.  But some strategy games have really detailed guides on each unit or building or whatnot, depending on the game.  Guides for The Sims games tend to be some of the most detailed guides out there, with details on all aspects of Sim life and I find those really interesting.
Some people say, " Well, you can find that info and more just on the Internet!  Why waste money on a guide?"  That is true, but think of it this way:  How many people have the computer in a convenient place in relation to the television?  How many people are willing to print out
all of that info???  No one that I know of!  It's way more convenient to just have the book sitting on a nearby table or even just a chair.  You don't have time to look something up on the Internet every time you get stuck or have a question!
I may be one of a few, but I find strategy guides good reading material sometimes.  If I am so bored that I want to read (HA, and again HA), but I have nothing to read, I'll open up a guide and read it, cover to cover.  It's also great for long vacations or long rides in the car, where you don't want to look at a novel.  I can tell you I've read my Super Smash Bros. Melee guide at least 4 or 5 times front to back.  Same with my
The Sims (1) guide.
What about you?  What's your outlook on strategy guides?  Do you read them, too?
Contact me and let me know what you think.  If I find your comment enlightening enough, I might just post it here!
