| The men worked in the shipyards. They used corrugated metal and scrap wood to build their houses. They used leftover paint from the ships to paint their homes in bright colors to remind them of Genoa. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| La Boca is a neighborhood located at the mouth ("boca") of the Rio de la Plata. Many Italians from the city of Genoa settled here between 1880 and 1930. Genoa is a port city, too, so the immigrants felt at home. |

| By the 1950s, most of the old houses had been replaced. Benito Quinquela Martin was an artist who grew up in La Boca. He didn't want La Boca's history to be forgotten. He and his friends created an outdoor work of art, Caminito (little street), to show how La Boca looked years ago. | La Boca is the home of Argentina's famous soccer club, the Boca Juniors. Their stadium is called "La Bombonera" or "The Chocolate Box," because it is rectangular. Their flag has three stripes like the building above: blue, yellow, and blue.
