Date:Jan 27 1978
Location: St. Louis, MO
Arena: Kiel Auditorium
Match: vs. Dory Funk Jr.
Comments: Larry Matysik remembers:
"On January 27, 1978, Ric Flair had his first ever St. Louis main event; he beat Dory Jr. It was a brutal night, only twelve degrees outside after a nine-inch snowfall. On top of that, Flair had taken a tumble over the top rope and cracked his head on the sturdy wooden steps. A chunk had been carved from his scalp and blood poured down his face."

"Back at the hotel, Ric refused to go for stitches despite the recommendation of the doctor, who just happened to be Sam's son, Dick Muchnick. "They'd have to shave my hair," he said, shaking his long, blond locks. "Can't have that happen to the 'Nature Boy.' It'll heal." There was no messing with the man's image." (67)
