the next life

reaching

Again I catch me reaching
for the stars so high above
And again I catch her preaching
that the day can't make them last.

They fade away and are no more,
they're gone and out of time.
At night they rise and brighten again,
to show me that time is mine.

I've been told to forget life,
to cash it in and to quit.
Life's wanted to weep me off my feet,
with just one more hit.

Without a doubt the time was near,
when I'd never thought I'd breath again,
when all I needed were the stars down here,
and not fading up in the sky in vain.

I wanted them down here on earth,
to guide me on my way.
To show me where to go now forth,
what to reach and where to stay.

But since the stars are far above,
they cannot help me here.
I have to make my way at home,
and fail in any fear.
The stars will fade after a while,
just to return another time,
I won't ever leave my track, my way,
to once say, life was mine.
