Disguises

Eyes glance upon a weary face
with deeply sunken, haunted eyes,
to see beyond the mask a child
hidden within the sullen disguise.

No one can see the child
hidden behind a masked wall
pain and bewilderment her lot
not earned or deserved at all.

Never wanted, tossed aside
love given was only a bad kind
dear lord  it is a wonder
she never lost her mind.

Behind this mask the child hides
and one wonders if at all
has the childs heart survived
or has it taken the last fall.

Hardness her costume,
pain disguises her cloak
letting her know daily
that her life upbringing
was never a joke.
