| The Story: | |||||||||||||||||||
| This episode begins with Xena leaving Gabrielle in a tavern while she scouts ahead. However, Xena ends up in the middle of an attack. She defends the helpless villagers bravely, but is shot in the torso with a crossbow bolt. She is brought home by a man whose son she saved. He helps her get the bolt out in a very painful way. Meanwhile back at the tavern Gabrielle waits. She is hassled by a crusty guy so she walks up to a stranger and kisses him,pretending he is her boyfriend. She talks to him and they end up kind of liking each other. The only problem is he was the one who shot Xena(of course Gabby doesn't know that). The guy later sets up a fake peace meeting with the villagers. His father wants him to kill them all as they sit there unaware. But the guy(Sphaerus) is too soft-hearted. He gives the order to attack too late allowing Xena(who is also in attendance) to fight off all his soldiers. He returns to his father who tries to get his son angry by telling him that his brother was murdered by Xena. It works and they go off in some chariots to find her. Xena has finally joined up with Gabrielle and they make small talk about this great guy Gabby met until the chariots come. Then Xena has Gabby ride off on Argo as a diversion while she climbs up a tree. She skillfully takes over the second chariot which is full of henchmen and goes to save Gabrielle who is in great danger of falling off the horse. No wonder, look at how she rides(can it really be called riding?). Anyway, Xena gets Gabrielle into the chariot, the other one crashes, and then their chariot hits a bump and they both fly out. There is a fight in which the evil father is killed. Sphaerus decides to be a good boy and he and Gabrielle have a cute chat. Xena also has a cute chat. The man she stayed with offers a place in his family for her. The background is that his wife died and he was left with three children. One is a girl who hasn't talked since her mother's death. She finally does to ask Xena to stay. How cute. Anyway, of course Xena can't, so she and Gabrielle make their exit. | |||||||||||||||||||
