Famous Ships
HMS Victory
Probably the most famous man-of-war in history, Victory was the flagship of the British fleets at the battle of Cape St. Vincent under the flag of Sir J. Jervis, and at Trafalgar under Horatio Nelson, the British naval hero. Though he was killed on the quarter deck of the Victory, his name will be forever linked with her.
The Victory was built 1750 in Chatham, Great Britan, and was launched in 1765. She carried at Trafalgar 108 cannon. HMS Victory lies in dock no.2 in Portsmouth Harbour, restored to the original condition she was in at Trafalgar.
Santissima Trinidad
The Santissima Trinidad was a first rate ship of the line, and the largest man-of-war ever built, carrying 136 guns. She was Spanish and was built in Cuba in 1775. She was present at the battle of Cape St. Vincent but avoided capture by escapeing. She was scuttled after the battle of Trafalgar, in 1805.
