Return...
8: No Werewolves Allowed Once we finally reached the steakhouse, I was in utter awe. As all eyes rested on Fang and me, I realised that all the customers were cat-beings (I think they are called werecats, according to Master Fang). They were all similar to Juniper, but each came in a different breed or colour; some were ginger, some were tabbies, Manx even Every kind of cat. I was shaken from my surveillance by Fang, who took my arm gently and assisted me to a table at the back. Although the scenery was a bit odd, I must admit that it was lovely. Fang sat across from me, smiling in the romantic candlelight. "What'd I tell you, Fuzzy; this place is great." Fang said. I reckoned that "Fuzzy" was a new pet name. Who could tell with Fang, anyway? I nodded, speechless. Just then, a young waiter came by, smiling pleasantly. Fang looked up at her and ordered. "We'll have two glasses of milk, two inch-thick steaks-rare- and a baked potato." The waitress nodded, bustling away. "You okay on what I ordered, Fuzzy?" Fang asked, snapping me out of my trance. I nodded, only slightly annoyed with his name-calling. Fang looked as if he was about to say something to me, but just then a cat girl walked up to our table, smiling brightly. "Hi; I'm Sapphire. What's your name?" She had short, shining black hair with blue tints. Her eyes were bright and blue, cold. "My name's Cody, and this is Keara," Fang replied. Sapphire smiled. "I know the truth about you. I know you're a werewolf. Why you out of the Dark Woods?" Fang smiled back coolly, leaning forward. "Because I was never there." Smiling coldly, she reached behind her back and whipped out a large orange stick. She pressed a button on the end of it, and I watched in a mix of curiosity and fear as it extended, six claws protruding from its end, which was tilted toward the earth. She pointed the viscous thing at Fang, screaming, "You must be put back!" Fang stood up calmly, saying, "Let's take this outside." They walked briskly out the door towards the front of the restaurant. Fang glanced back at me once, signaling for me to stay. I knew that he was doing it for my own safety, but at the same time I felt very weak and incapable. Being a full-fledged Earth Guardian and all, I decided that I had to fight, too. Then again, I thought as I pushed the chair back and stood up, this might be a personal fight that goes way back. Maybe it was none of my business. Unsure, I walked out the front door through the now evacuated restaurant. There was a huge crowd of normal-looking civilians and cat people alike gathered outside, keeping their distance from the fighting pair. I tried to push my way through, unable to stand the shouting and cries of pain. I saw a flash of wings, and two massive dragons with animal's heads popped up above the crowd for a mere moment, and then the fight ensued again. I knew better than to think that the dragons had been Fang and Sapphire; Fang was a werewolf, not a weredragon. Finally, I pushed my way to the front of the crowd, the scents of a hundred people strong against my body. I spotted Fang, lying on the ground, and Sapphire, standing above him with her staff at his throat. Fang looked helpless, trying to stare her down. Sapphire began to push down the claw staff, but I broke through the barrier of people, screaming. "NO!!!" I cried, rushing up to her and pushing her away with all my strength. Taken by surprise, she tumbled away. I was going to kneel down and help Fang up, but a dragon stepped up behind me. Its dank breath was hot on my neck. I cringed, knowing that it was going to kill me. However, Fang yelled, "What are you doing; you can't kill a human!" The dragon stepped back, gazing longingly at its master for an answer. Sapphire signaled for the beast to cease. "Why did you stop me?" She asked, breathing hard. "Because he helped me," I said, gazing down at Fang. Sapphire sneered, her eyes cold as ice. "You have no idea what he did. He killed many people; he's not allowed here!" "I don't care," I cried, helping him up gently, "He helped me. I'll take him far away from here if it will stop you from harming him further." Sapphire nodded, fuming. Her dragon-beasts backed off, too. She glanced over at Fang, an imperious air taking her over. "SilverFang of the Black Furies, you may go with the human." She announced, turning away. She left, the beasts following closely. The crowd dispersed as we, too, went on our way. "Thanks," Fang said, smiling weakly. His eyes were duller than before. I smiled back. "No problem. Are you all right?" I asked, pulling his shirt away from where the dragon had bitten him. Fang nodded, but I saw that two of his ribs were showing, right down to the bone. Blood was everywhere. "Fang, um...Aren't heals supposed to be healed by now?" I asked, pointing worriedly to the enormous wound. "Yeah," he said. I put the shirt back down. "Well, I'm afraid they're not." Fang didn't really respond, but I knew that we had to do something. I grabbed his arm, urgency filling the moment. "We have to get you to a doctor," I told him. He stood in though for a moment, then agreed. We both headed off for the local doctor; I knew that I was supposed to take him far away, but this was more important. Anyway, it would only be for a little while, and then we'd find another place to go. I spent the rest of the way there either thinking of a place, or asking him if he was in very much pain.
