Strangulation and Hanging
Strangulation was used either on its own as a torture or as a form of execution before the persecuted witch was to be burnt at the stake. Strangulation was done before the victim was burnt, as being burnt alive would raise sympathy from the crowds. Hanging a victim by the neck was the most popular method, but their breasts, wrists and testicles were a more painfully slow and torturous way for them to be hanged.
