Samhain 2001
Light Candle/Lamp of Art, say opening words.
Group breath, ground & center.
HPS1:
"Tonight is a most sacred night; a night of remembrance, for those who have passed from this world into the Summerlands are free to come back to us and to hear our words of honor and love for them. This is a time, too, for sober reflection on what we have done, and for contemplation of what we will do. And this is the time for divination into our possible futures, and for deciding our own fates. For this year now lies spent and dying, and we await with hopeful hearts the coming of the New Year with the light of dawn."
Priestess:
"We reclaim our darkness and we reclaim our selves. As Witches, we must maGuest3r self-transformation, and this night, we may choose to begin the process of transforming our unnecessary negative thoughts into positive ones to help us grow and progress. These in turn will give us strength for our trials and joy in our blessings."
HPS2:
"We each have blessings and trials to look back on this past year, and as one nation we have our recent tragedy in New York to reflect upon. Since no one on Mother Earth was left untouched by that action and it's consequences, we ask the Lady and Lord, and the Lords of Fate & Karma, to deal swiftly with those that would perpetuate the hate and violence, so that we may get on to the business of rebuilding our lives, and so that the world may learn better the lessons it needs to come closer to becoming a global village."
Dedicate:
"We ask for patience. We ask for forgiveness. We ask for wisdom and for understanding. We ask for what we need, for what our country needs, and for what the world needs. We ask for Divine Grace."
Guest1:
"And in this sacred place, in this sacred time, we gather to remember those who have gone before us. We remember relatives, friends, acquaintances and even enemies. We grieve, we love, and we release them, with Perfect Love and Perfect Trust."
Earth-Water/Air-Fire cleansing/charging.

Priestess:
"On this Night, when the Veil is thin, we invite those loved ones who have gone to the Summerlands before us to come across the Veil and share this time with us. We light candles in honor of them; may these be beacons of love to them on their journey evermore."
Coven members and guests light provided candles and name those who they are remembering. (One candle per circle member, not per person remembered)
Coveners/guests may, if they wish share stories about these people.
HPS2:
"Samhain is traditionally the only Sabbat at which magickal Workings is done. This is usually to help those cross over to the Summerlands, to contact the dead, or to do divination. The true magick is inner, and so we will work on releasing our inner problems. Before you are paper and pens; write down the things you wish to release in your life...bad habits, resentments, and jealousies...negative things you no longer want in your life. These we will release to the fire, for fire is the ultimate transformer next to the gods. As we watch the paper transform into ash, so begins the inner transformation of these bad habits and feelings into little more than memories. As the smoke rises, it carries with it our intent of this small act of magick to the gods."
Coven and guests write down fears, bad habits, etc. on separate pieces of paper. When all are done, everyone goes around the circle, and shares which ones they wish, saying something polite when they place the ones they do not want to share in the fire. When that is done, the group will do a Pathworking, lead by HPS1.
Pathworking.
Group shares, if they like, their Pathworking results.
Dedicate takes the pentacle with the pomegranate and the apple on it.
Dedicate:
"The fruits of Life and Death will be shared tonight, their myGuest3ries and myths revealed. May we have the wisdom to use them wisely." (Dedicate then draws a pentacle over the fruits, blessing them)
HPS1 reads the Legend of Persephone.
HPS1:
"Thus the pomegranate is the fruit of Death. Each seed is bittersweet, and the color of blood. Persephone could not resist its lure, and she paid the price. Tonight, we take the Fruit of Death into ourselves, that we may glimpse the Summerlands this night. For the veil between the worlds is thin...would you brave that MyGuest3ry?"
The Pomegranate is cut open, and the seeds shared. Any more pomegranate lore is also shared.
Priestess reads the Legend of the Apple and the Goddess
Priestess:
"Thus the apple is the fruit of Life. The pentacle reveal inside is the mark of the favor of the goddess, and when we mindfully partake of that fruit, we reaffirm our place in the lifecycle. Tonight we do so, and we feed the bones of the fruit of Life to the remembered dead."
The apple is cut open, and the fruit shared. The cores are kept. Any apple lore is shared as well.
Cakes and ale
Guest2 & Guest3 do The Cup (or, Priestess & HPS2)
HPS1 and Dedicate do the bread
Farewells to the Ancestors.
HPS2:
"We bid the spirits come to share this night with us a loving and peaceful farewell. We wish them a safe journey back to the Summerlands, and a resolute reprieve while there. The candles we may extinguish, but our love for them burns in our hearts forever."
Coveners & Guests bid farewell to those invoked however they wish; they blow out their own candle when finished.
Guest1:
"This Samhain ritual is finished. All you spirits who have assembled here, we bid you peace, and love, and contentment. If you came in anger or hate, then we compel you, in the Names of the Mighty Ones, to return from whence you came. If you came in love, then stay if you will, go if you must; to all: hail, and farewell, and blessed be."
Farewell to the gods
Farewell to the elements
Uncast/take down the circle
The coven/guests takes the apple cores outside and buries them whenever they can, or throws them to the wilderness, mindful that the bones of the fruit of Life will feed the dead in the Summerlands.
