Call Samantha the babysitter to watch your kids while you go out for the holidays! She has plenty of references in SBO. She has a new number which is: 248-462-5368. She's very reliable.

The money in the budget for social events is there for the community in general - yes, there are things specifically for kids(Egg Hunt), which is part of the charm of the neighborhood, but there are also events for adults only (golf) or that you can enjoy even without kids (general picnic). Whether you attend and take advantage of these opportunities to meet other neighbors is up to you, but most people in the community like and expect these events.

Shame on the person who finds spending $3000 for social activities that they will never use. Way to think of yourself. I would like to see just what % of homes in this sub have children within, - I don't have children at the age that would get any use out of these activities either but I don't mind paying. It also sounds like you might be a person who also voted down the library expansion because you don’t use it either. Please try to remember the nicer the community the higher the home values, which we are not seeing in this community.

We called the police last night after seeing the 2nd and 3rd set of tire tracks on our lawn. We need help from neighbors to keep to catch the persons responsible.

The Orion police department will dispatch an additional patrol to our sub.

What do we need to do to form a neighborhood watch program?

The Kids in school know what is going on.
Its teenagers with nothing better to do.
And its parents who dont discipline them.
Ask your children who go to school if they hear any bragging going on.

What is going on in this sub with the lawn jobs? The house at the corner of Wingtip and Kossuth has been damaged twice now. Major damage from last month, and then the night of January 4. The last time resulted in damage all over the area, (over 10 lots) didn't anybody see or report anything? Does anybody care that these teenagers are causing a great deal of damage? We have already had a resident caught for thefts. Parents, do you know if your kids are involved or if they know who is? Let's get this stopped now, it's getting out of control! I am looking and listening for suspicious activity and will report it immediately, Is anybody else?

Here's the police log from the Lake Orion Review:
* Monday, Dec. 31
Money reported stolen from a vehicle on Fieldview.
Radio reported stolen from a vehicle on Hi Villa Drive.
Beer reported stolen from a garage on MayCenter.
Radio reported stolen from a vehicle on Fieldview.
Garage door opener reported stolen from a vehicle on Fieldview.
Three juveniles were arrested for attempting to break into multiple vehicles on Hi Dale. Deputies received several calls from residents in the area. The boys were turned over to their parents.
All of the above information is on file at the Oakland County Sheriff's Department Orion Substation.
Needless to say, we have a problem in this subdivision, and next to us in Hi Hill. All residents need to keep a look out and alert the police of any strange activity. There seems to be a high degree of activity from teenagers (based on what I have seen and read from the previous blogs). Parents, you need to start talking to your kids. Anybody walking around the neighborhood late at night, especially groups of teenagers need to be watched. BTW-This township does have a curfew for 16 year olds, it's 10PM. Let's start looking for and reporting this ativity. Parents, where are your teenagers late at night? Do you even care?

I'd like to comment on the new street signs that went in over the summer. I was skeptical at first - this sure seemed like alot of money. I will say that I really like them - very dressy and stylish, and it gives our Subdivision a nice look. I consider this money well spent, and I would like to thank the Board for making this improvement.

Regarding Snow Removal:
We should try calling the Road Commission phone numbers. If the streets need treated, and 10% of our residents call the phone numbers, they either stop answering, or they send services we paid for to shut us up.

I'd like to propose again that we add "No Soliciting" signs at the entrance of the subdivision. Last year I even offered to pay for the one at the Kaeleaf entrance but never heard back from the board. Not only is it irritating but might limit some minor concerns for our children? Is anyone else interested in this?

Are sidewalks an option in the sub? Has the cost of installing ever been evaluated?

Finally, does the board secure bids for the work that is done in the subdivision and if so are those available to the members for viewing?

Subject: Mom's Type Group
Is anyone home on Mon and/or Tues and interested in meeting once in a while (nothing formal) and letting the kids play. My kids are almost 2 and 4 and I thought it would be nice to know some other mom's in the neighborhood (and my kids don't think I'm that entertaining anymore;) If you are in the same boat and wouldn't mind getting a change of scenery, send me an e-mail.

Re tel. directory blog entries:

1. This is NOT the same as the info found in the 'White Pages'.
2. As we all know, the decision to prepare the SBO tel directory by street no. and by alphabetical order was made at the request of a resident and placed before the Board by a Board member.
3. The budget allocation of $ 4000 is just that - an allocation, not actual. In the past we have defrayed the cost with paid advertisements by local businesses.
4. The tel. directory prepared as described in (3) is 10 pages long, expected to cost about $1.00 per household to mail, and this is over and above the cost for printing and folding.
5. Seemingly, not everybody looks at the website (people do not even read the newsletters!).
6. This can be put to vote at the next Board Meeting or SBO meeting and acted upon accordingly.
7. This version of the directory has been prepared after four years (I believe) and is NOT an annual exercise.
8. This is only one or two ANONYMOUS persons opinion. We as board members are tasked with evaluating each issue to achieve the greater good. Some do not use the web or even have computers to do so. Many of us are all for going electronic however if that does not achieve the goal of reaching the masses then the phone book is what we need. We think Vasu is doing great job preparing the Directory and maybe we can do this kind of thing not annually but maybe every other year. That way the cost is reduced.
9. Another thought regarding the electronic version of the directory. A few years ago this same discussion occurred and there was concern voiced over having the directory posted on the website for a few reasons: First, people don’t like their name, address, phone number readily available to the public and second, people were concerned about someone copying the list and the information being sold or used for marketing.
10. One of the solutions would be to make the directory password protected and only distribute the password via the newsletters – this wouldn’t be a perfect solution, but would probably cut down the amount of people who could access it who are using it for other means than to contact a neighbor. We have had businesses email SBO requesting an electronic version of the directory. We have always denied such requests.

Lisa,
1. The SBO Management Team obtains bids for work done in the subdivision. These are part of the SBO Management Team Minutes that are made available for Board review. These are not made public, however if you are a homeowner and would like to know something specific, call or email.
2. The Board has reviewed "No Solicitation" signs in the past and has not acted upon this since many residents have children that solicit donations for Scouting, Band, School Activites, and Charities. The Township has a Solicitation Ordinance that requires the solicitor to be registered. Suggestion: Ask where the solicitor lives. We support children fundraisers from this subdivision first!
3. The Management Team has not investigated sidewalks.

Today March March 09,08 I called the sheriff to report yet more damage to the sub. My mail box was hit/broken along with the speed limit sign at the foot of Kaeleaf being broken off and thrown in the yard. The person who did this was wearing shoes with the four small circle pads on the heel. Another set of foot prints where smooth bottom appear to be girl size shoes. Sheriff will patol more offten because he is seeing an increase in damage complaints. I also alerted him to the kid who speeds up Kaeleaf in a grey car with a load muffler and the sheriff wants his plate number. If you see this kid get his plate number before he runs into people walking.

Would it be possible to post the name and number for the lawn service we currently contract with for the common areas as discussed at the annual meeting? I would be interested in contacting them for a price on mowing our lawn and would be happy to send the business their way in an effort to keep a good relationship with the sub. If interested I would also be willing to approach them on a "group" rate if others in the sub were interested in contracting this out.

I agree. The one house grass has been cut; however, it still looks like it is abandoned. The yard is still a mess. I thought there were rules against unkept lawns in this sub division. If it is for sale or in foreclosure, shouldn't the real estate company be responsible for the upkeep.

I have noticed that several of our neighbors go on vacation and do not stop their newspaper delivery. Sometimes there are 3 and 4 newspapers piled up in the drive way. This send a message to people who cruise our neighborhood that no one is home. It would be nice if the homeowner would either stop the delivery of such papers or ask a neighbor to pick up the paper for them while they are away. It just makes the driveway and area look unkept.

There are houses that are rented in our subdivision. The issue is that there is little or no upkeep on the landscape except cutting the lawn from time to time. It is an eyesore, with dead trees, weeds, and overgrown landscaping. Shouldn't they (owners) be accountable? It brings down the value!

The county road plows seem to be arriving slower every winter. I called the county phone # posted on the website at 2 pm today and was told: budget cuts, lay offs etc. Not to expect plowing before Monday 12/22. There was a serious accident at the Kaeleaf exit onto silverbell last night. A driver got stuck because our entrance/exit is plowed in. While trying to turn right on Silverbell his car was partially into the west bound lane of silverbell and he could not move. His vehicle was totaled but fortunately ther were no serious injuries. This is crazy. I know that Timber line was not doing such a good job and is no longer being used for plowing our sub. I for one would be willing yo pay for a competent service to keep our roads safe.

FYI,
Dean called Patrick on Friday around noon to put us on the list to do our sub.

Dan called and so did Tim about getting plowing done.

To cut to the case I called Patrick and he is going to do a rough pass through our sub this morning. It is not to completely clear the street but it will allow us to get in and out of our sub. I spoke to at about 9:30 am this morning and he was getting out of the shower. Patrick just called as I am writing this e-mail and he is in our sub.

I spoke to Patrick about making sure he is using big enough equipment to do the job because of the damage complaint issues we had last year when Patrick's guys tried to push some heavy snow and scuffed up some of the lawns.

We need to keep in mind that whoever does our sub must have large enough equipment to handle the size of our sub. The county is option 1 because of the size of there equipment but Patrick does have some larger equipment.

As a reference point Patrick said he would do our rough pass through our sub for a couple of hundred dollars. That is the best he can do for now because of his usual customers that he has to get done first. This should do until the city can do a more complete job. But we need to keep up the calls to Oakland County Road Commission.

You only have to look at the road conditions. The road is split or sinking where ever they ran the water lines under the road. I would like to suggest that next year we tell the county that if they are not going to put down salt then don't put down sand. I have just removed two five gallon bucket full of sand from the grate for the sewer.
