Nephritis
Nephritis means "inflammation of the kidney". This disease is uncommon in young horses, but certain cases have been known to occur. This disease affects mostly horses and ponies from the age of fifteen or sixteen years and older. It is also more common in mares than in geldings, most especially if they have been used for breeding.
Symptoms include: Progressive loss in condition and deposits around the genital area. Also ulcers sometimes appear around the mouth.
Treatment: Send for your vet immediately. They will take blood and urine samples and begin specific treatments. In most cases, however, the horse does not survive the disease.
