Fire Preventions
Avoid fire in your stable or other horse facilities by following these basic steps:

*Do not allow anyone to smoke in any of the buildings. Put up signs to enforce this rule

*Keep hay separate from the stable and tack room.

*Disconnect all appliances when in use, including radios, clippers, water heaters, pipe heating tape, treadmills, and bug electrocuters.  Stall lights should be kept in cages or heavy glass covers. The improper use of heating units such as electric, kerosene, or propane and infrared lights are among the biggest causes of barn fires.

*Be sure wiring is covered so that rodents cannot chew on them and cause them to fray. Don't overload any plugs or circuits.

*Use fireproof materials wherever possible.

*Always keep fire extinguishers mounted nearby.
