FAQ'S ABOUT WICCA
What is wicca?

Wicca is a nature religion. Its main goal is to become in tune with the cycles of life and nature. There is no set dogma in Wicca, but there are some common opinions that Wiccan's share. These include: As it harm none, do as ye will. This is very much like the golden rule. This means that we must not do anything that will harm anyone including ourselves. On the other hand it gives us the freedom to do anything as long as we keep in mind of to respect other people. It is up to each of us to determine the ethics and morals that will help us live up to this goal. This rule does NOT mean that people should not protect themselves.  It must be remembered that sometimes you must hurt someone in order not to harm them, mostly if they are harming, or going to harm you.

Do you worship Satan?

Satan is a part of the Christian and Muslim religions. Since Wiccans are neither Christian nor Muslim, Satan is not part of our deity structure at all.

Why do all Witches/Wiccans wear black?

We all don't. Many Witches/Wiccans favor green and/or purple. Black, however, is in many cultures, symbolizing clergy. Priests, Ministers, Rabbis all favor black as the main color of their ritual garb.

Why do you use the pentagram/pentacle? Isn't that a satanic symbol?

The pentagram/pentacle, the 5 pointed star, or 5 pointed star in a circle, is not satanic. It's points represent: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit. When inclosed in a circle it is known as a pentacle. Satanists do use the pentagram/pentacle, but they use it inverted, with two points up. Occasionally, you will see a Wiccan wearing an inverted pentagram: in some traditions, this is to signify a certain level.

Are there "Black" or "White" Witches?

This is not a racial connotation, but refers to whether a Witch is a "Good Witch" or a "Bad Witch". In reality, there is no such thing. A Witch is a Witch- Witches by nature do not do anything that would be negative or "evil". There are people who call themselves Witches who do bad things, but those people are not practitioners of the Wicca religion, and therefore do not represent Wiccans.

What about black magick?

Magick is neither black or white. Magick is simply the use of energy in the universe and in yourself, and energy is neither positive or negative.

So, if you use magick, that means you cast spells, right?

Yes. However, Wiccans do NOT use spells that hurt or interfere with another person's will. We don't do hexes, curses, the evil eye, or anything of that nature. All Wiccans follow one rule, called the Rede, and keep it strongly in mind when working magick.

Does your religion have a "bible"?

No, Wicca does not have a "bible" or any other book that claims to be "the word of god". We Do have some very important writings that many try to follow. Wicca is a very open religion. One that allows each person to find their own beliefs in a very loose structure, and is why we have many "opinion" books, "history" books, and "reference" books,  but no "one way."

I have heard that you spellcast naked...is this true?

Some do, but the majority don't. The belief of casting spells and performing rituals without clothing comes mainly from the Gardnarian tradition. This is certainly not a requirement of general Wicca, and the majority of practitioners probably keep their clothes on...especially in group rituals.

Do you have to be a cetain age to practice Wicca?

Not really. Traditional covens usually will only train adults, and in fact it is illegal in most states to provide religious training to anyone under 18 without their parents' permission.

Do you have to be born into the Craft to be a Witch?

You don't have to be born into the Craft to become part of it. It's obviously true that some people are born with stronger natural magickal abilities than others.
