Fall From Grace By: Charlotte Pendragon Rating: PG-13 Prologue Summary: Serafina was your ordinary angel until she broke the rules. Now forced to choose between Heaven and Earth, Serafina is tested like never before... AN: This is my first story in my "Fallen Angel" series. I hope you all like it. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Serafina sat at the mirror that allowed anyone in Heaven a glance at the mortal world. Looking about her to make sure no one was looking, she turned to the mirror and whispered, "Sergio Reed." She stared at the image in front of her and sighed. This man was going to be her undoing. It was forbidden for angels to love mortals, even mortals as handsome as this. His dark hair gleamed and shimmered in the predawn light as he set to doing his chores. Something caught his eye for a moment, diverting his attention from the horse he was riding. "Pay attention," Serafina said to the mirror as she clenched her hands together in a prayer-like fashion. As much as she loved this mortal, she couldn't help him. It was in God's hands now. That is why Sergio never saw the tree limb that decapitated him. Serafina felt the tears flow down her cheeks as she turned from the mirror and went about her duties as one of God's messengers. A hundred mortal years passed before she saw him again. Her heart leapt for joy when she felt him be reborn; she quickly excused herself from her duties and went to her mirror, whispering, "Paul O'Neal." His image was thrown up onto the mirror. His hair was a shade lighter this time, but his eyes were the same. She watched him grow into a strapping young man; she could barely contain her jealousy when he was married to a widow much older than he was. She watched as his new wife slowly poisoned him to death. She cried so hard the night he finally died, she missed some of her duties and was suspended. One hundred and fifty mortal years passed before he was born again. This time his life was going to be different, and he wasn't going to die young. Serafina watched him up until he was twenty-five, before she went and pleaded her case before God. She wrestled and cried with Him, until He finally said, "You are no longer able to understand My plan. Maybe you need to have a better view from Earth." In all of His infinite wisdom, He had only done this a few times before; then He said the words that would forever alter Serafina's fate. "Enjoy your fall from grace."
