First Bonding (Season: Spring) A wolfrider cub's first wolf-bonding generally occurs when the cub is around 5-7 years of age, and the new spring litter(s) have arrived. Though the cubs don't always bond with a wolf pup and can bond with an adult or adolescent, it is most usual that the first bond _is_ with a pup, usually 6-8 weeks of age.
First Hunt (Season: Any) Many young wolfriders anxiously look forward to their first hunt, when they can prove themselves to their elders. First hunts generally occur when an adolescent wolfrider is around 10 years of age and/or when the Hunt Leader or Chieftess feels the cub is ready. Usually the Hunt Leader and/or a hunt supervisor will accompany the eager young hunter(s) on the first hunt. Other adults often go along to assist (if necessary) and encourage. The cubs are allowed to choose their hunting territory and prey (within reason) and are expected to bring down the kill themselves. Most cubs desperately want to undergo this rite of passage, but there have been a few exceptions in the past. Although a first hunt may occur at any season, the adults do try to avoid the floods of New Green, when the banks of the Deepfast River are treacherously swollen and unsafe.
Vigil/Soulname Search (Season: Any) The Vigil is an event of utmost importance to the Silver Meadows tribe. The soulname is the very essence of a wolfrider's soul, and when they find their soulname, they find their true self. Though some elves know their soulname from birth, all do not. Vigil often occurs when an elf is between the ages of 15-20 years. The young wolfrider sets out on his/her own away from the Holt without his/her wolf-friend. He/she carries only one weapon for protection during the span of time it takes, while searching through deep meditation, for his/her soulname.
Name Changes (Season: Any) It is common among wolfriders to take different names as they age. This may be done by an elf simply choosing an adult name or it may also be due to a special circumstance or event. Elves choosing a new adult name usually do so after having successfully completed their soulname search since they now more fully understand their true being. New names may also be given by others, especially the Chieftain.
