Sailor Chibi Moon is the child Sailor Soldier of the future. She goes by many names: Usagi, Chibi-usa, Rini, Small Lady, Princess Serenity, Princess Chibi Serenity, Sailor Chibi Moon, Sailor Mini Moon. When Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen become Neo Queen Serenity and Neo King Endymion in the thirtieth century they will have a daughter known as Small Lady. The manga and the anime are different in terms of how she ages. In the manga, people of the Silver Millenium are immortal unless they are killed. In the anime they age like normal people. According to the manga, Sailor Moon becomes Queen when she reaches adulthood, and we next hear about her in the thirtieth century. In the anime, they are indeed in the thirtieth century, but the earth has gone into a second ice age and frozen over. All life was placed in suspended animation, until the thirtieth century when Sailor Moon awoke as Neo Queen Serenity, and unfroze the planet. This difference is essential to understanding Small Lady. You see, in the manga she is born just after our time. By the thirtieth century she is about nine hundred years old. However something very strange has happened. When she was about five years old she stopped growing. She couldn't change or use any powers. She just stayed about five years old, for almost nine hundred years. In the anime she just happened to be five. She grows normally. There is the similarity, however, of her being unable to use and control her powers. At any rate, at that five years old, or equivalent of, the Kingdom of Crystal Tokyo is attacked she has only her magic toy, Luna P and the crystal time key to help her. She goes back in time searching for the Sailor Soldiers to come with her and rescue Crystal Tokyo. This takes place in Sailor Moon R of the anime, and acts 4-23 of the manga. By the end of it She has grown and changed. All this time she has not yet been a Senshi. In Sailor Moon S and manga acts 24-33 She is a Sailor Soldier in-training, Sailor Chibi Moon. She has grown a bit from before. She is still a fairly minor character after Sailor Moon. Sailor Chibi Moon gets her opportunity to shine in Sailor Moon Super S. She has officially ended her training, but still has doubts about whether she is truly a soldier. This is the series where she finds her way. She is truly beginning to grow up. Not just grow, but mature, to see herself as a potential adult, and a strong Senshi. In the anime she is not in Sailor Moon Stars at all, except for a six-episode series intro sort of thing. It just leaves you to assume that she returns to the future to continue her life, and live happily. The manga Sailor Stars starts out with the same assumption. She does come back into it, but her role isn't very important, except to show, once again, that she is on her way to becoming a true lady. |
