SF. Why and when did you start writing creatively?

EP. I began my journey in 1999 when I finally gave in to my wife's urging.

SF. Where do you get the inspiration for your stories ?
EP. The stories come to me out of simple, everyday events that I just take and run with. Sometimes they come to me in my sleep

SF. Are there parts of you contained in your works?
EP. There are bits and pieces of me sprinkled throughout my characters. That's the fun in it. Someone may know something  about  me and when they see a particular phrase or a particular location mentioned, they'll break out laughing because they're in on the secret.

SF. Do you identify with any one particular character?
If so how?

EP. Hmm. That's a tough one. Mainly because of my last answer.
I've had people say they saw a lot of Lance (from Gets No Love) in me. Others have (jokingly) called me "Reggie" from Someone's In the Kitchen. A lot of Max's (from Real for Me) roots and family background is similar to mine.

SF. What genre(s) / art form(s) are you most comfortable with?

EP. I like and read a variety of genres. Right now, I write contemporary fiction, but I guess I'll have to get my feet wet w/ a few others before I can accurately answer that. I've been tinkering w/ some paranormal/science fiction. I'd like to write things that cross genres to tell you the truth. Just tell a good story about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, whatever that may be.

SF. Where do you hope to see your creative career go?
EP. Continue to create entertaining, engaging stories, but move into other mediums such as TV and film as well.

SF. Have your life experiences influenced your work?
If so , how?

EP. Definitely. The more diverse people you interact with, the more you are able to reflect differences in your characters. I've lived in a variety of environments that spanned racial and economic divides. That and the typical family drama have given me a rich background to draw from.

SF. What, if anything, would you like to share about you, the person?

EP. I'm left handed.

SF. How has your transition to publication / recognition gone?
EP. It's had its ups and downs. I'm glad and blessed to have undertaken the journey though. Still hungry and working to get to that next level.

SF. When can your fans expect to enjoy your work again?
EP. Well, Don't Get It Twisted is available now. On November 7, readers can look forward to Lady Sings the Cruels.

SF. How can your fans reach you?
EP. By visiting my websites: www.ericpete.com or www.myspace.com/authorericpete.

SF. Do you have any presently scheduled events for the next few months?
EP. Other than my return to Los Angeles in June, I'll be writing and preparing for the November release of my next novel, Lady Sings the Cruels. Enjoying my family time right now.

SF. What is your idea of fun?
EP. Bowling (even though I suck) with my family, a nice evening out, maybe a little dancing. Watching my Seahawks, clowning around with friends. Meeting new people.

SF. What places do you still wish to travel to?
EP. Hmm. Italy, Rio, south of France, maybe Alaska.

SF. Do you have an agent and if not are you looking for one?

EP. Yes, I have an agent.

SF. How many not yet to be released works do you  have keeping warm on the back burner?
EP. I have a completed novel on the back burner that I hope to take off the stove very soon. In my opinion, it's too tasty a dish to let sit.

SF. Off all of your released works which is your  favorite?
EP. They're all my babies. If I had to pick one, I guess it would be Someone's In the Kitchen (The first one where I really "cut loose".) then maybe the upcoming one Lady Sings the Cruels.

SF. When and where / what type of environment are you most creative in?
EP. Late at night at the computer with everyone asleepl. Music's playing on my iTunes and  I'm in the zone.

SF. Outside of your present career , are there any other avenues you would still like to pursue?
EP. I've been an extra in a film. Maybe in a more substantial role in the future. Growing up, it was my dream to be a comic artist. The art isn't good enough these days, but maybe writing.

SF. Where would you like to see your life five years from now?
EP. Five more years of entertaining stories. Maybe a New York Times bestseller (or two, or three). A healthy family.

SF. Anyone out there you like to acknowledge?

EP. Once I get started, it would be hard to stop.

SF. I'd like to thank Eric Pete for granting this interview. Despite the wide appeal and success of his books he has managed to remain humble. When one hears his opinions and he speaks his mind it reflects many of the best traits about what a real man is all about.

He is considerate of others, doesn't preen and seek attention.
I've enjoyed his books and look forward to reading his new (and future ) literary works. I suspect he will remain consistent, about who he is as a person regardless of how famous he becomes.

After Hurricane Katrina had upturned his own world, his concern lay with those less fortunate. I have a great admiration of him for that. I already had a good "feeling" about the type of person he is. This just proved to me, that my opinion is valid.

Please take the time to visit his website. Sign his guest book. He'll appreciate knowing you stopped by.
