Echoes of Voices

I hear the echoes of a hundred voices,
yet they are distant and faint.
Past, present, future choices,
too little or too much restraint,
and I feel so isolated.
The men stream in and out of my life.
The faces, the voices, the longing
hit me like a building falling around me.
I stand unscathed by rubble,
because I will allow only a small part
of myself to be touched by them.
I long for more,
but my fear of failure holds me back
from the potential touching of souls.
The echoes of the voices urge me to live again, and truly love again.
I may start listening harder.
I deserve to feel completely electrified once more.
