Episode 9: A new dawn- fears of the heart
“ How much longer?” Asuku yawned and sighed as she sat next to her brother and Shino on the 
bus towards an old mine. She sat at the back on a large bench on the bus with 5 other people. 
“ I don’t know.” Shino said emptily. 
“ Monkey-boy!” Vegeta growled as he looked beside Asuku.
“ What?” He asked innocently. 
“ You used to be sitting at the end of the row.” Vegeta’s eyebrows narrowed. “ How come you’re 
sitting beside her now.” 
“ I don’t mind.” Asuku sighed, knowing that her input didn’t matter. Vegeta made all her 
decisions. So Vegeta went on yelling at Goku until they arrived at the old mines. 
“ Okay class I’ll go over the rules once again.” Ms. Sasagi murmured. “ Stay together in buddies. 
The ones that I’ll assign you! Number two…” She trailed off and Asuku sat nervously hoping to get 
someone she could actually get along with. “ Now. I’m going to pass around a hat with slips of paper with 
numbers on them. All the girls will pick one then the boys will and match up the numbers. 
“ I hope I get 11.” Asuku smiled down at Shino and Aseriana who were reading a couple of 
magazines. Asuku had dozed off while listening to Vegeta and Goku arguing. 
“ I doesn’t really matter what number you get you ditz.” Ashitru sneered at Asuku. Her short red 
hair bobbed back and forth. 
“ Why you…” Vegeta had started yelling at her too. Asuku just laughed quietly. Ms. Sasagi 
sighed. She was used to Vegeta arguing with everyone as long as he didn’t hurt them then she no longer 
cared. 
	“ Ashitru! Pay attention it’s your turn.” Misako shoved the box at her. She rummaged through it 
and then smiled as she opened her slit of paper. 
	“ Is it 11?” Goku asked curiously. She put her snotty face on again.
	“ No it’s seven. But everyone knows that seven is a lucky number.” She turned back around in a 
huff and Misako giggled. 
	“ My turn.” Asuku said pleasantly. She held her out above the box and a slit of paper flew up into 
her hand. “ Eleven.” She sighed happily. She passed the box down to Shino and Aseriana. A four and an 
eighteen were pulled out. 
	“ Now the boys.” Ms. Sasagi called from  the front of the bus. Once again the box was passed 
from the front to the back. 
	“ Eighteen.” Takato repeated. “ Any of you eighteen?” 
	“ No were sixteen except Asuku.” Misako chuckled. Takato stared at her strange and she sighed. “ 
Okay then sorry!” 
	“ I am Takato.” Aseriana said relief of her partner. 
	“ Okay Gokuu.” Asuku said as she leaned over his shoulder as her pulled out a number. 
	“ It…its…e…el…eleven!” He smiled and stopped once he saw Vegeta. 
	“ So were partners.” Asuku wrapped her arms around his neck. “ That’s great.” She laughed. Goku 
turned beat red and felt his legs turn to jelly. 
	“ No!” Vegeta screamed as he opened his. “ No this has to be wrong!” 
	“ What’s wrong?” Aseriana turned her attention away from Takato. 
	“ I’m partners with her!” He pointed at Shino. “ And was tops it all of monkey-boy is partners 
with Asuku-Chan.” He grumbled. 
	“ Cheer up partner!” Shino put her arm around his shoulder. “ Come on.” She dragged him off the 
bus. 
	“ Okay now let’s go explore these caves.” Ms. Sasagi said as everyone was off the bus. “ Now we 
will go in one group at a time. You will each have a candle and please you are almost adults…be careful or 
you’ll be in big trouble back at school. And Vegeta…Kazu that means you too!” Kazu’s loud groan was 
heard from the back of the clutter. Asuku and Goku received their candles and slowly made their way in. 
Vegeta pushed his way up to the front with Shino and took the candle. 
	“ Stupid candles.” He muttered, letting go of Shino’s hand once they had entered the cave. Asuku 
and Goku were already twenty minutes ahead of them. 
	“ Wow look at these rocks. Looks like gold.” Asuku said in amazement. Goku held the candle 
behind her as she jumped from every rock looking at it and saying that it looked like gold or silver. But 
Goku didn’t mind. He liked being with Asuku because she could make anyone happy at the worst 
situations. 
	“ Come on let’s move on a bit. You can find more gold and silver…maybe even some bronze!” He 
joked and she laughed. 
	“ Ow you’re hurting my arm.” Shino sighed and pulled her arm out of Vegeta’s grasp. He had 
been pulling her for the last half hour because he said she was too slow. 
	“ It’s your own fault.” He grumbled and looked around for Asuku and for Goku. 
	“ Wow! Look at that!” Asuku exclaimed as they came to an opening for a narrow path. But the 
thing was as Goku shone the candle  every so often the walls would shine and glimmer. “ It must lead to an 
opening of some sort.” She said looking back at him. “ Come on lets go.” She said waiting for him. 
	“ Who should go first?” He asked. Asuku stiffened. 
	“ Go separately?” She asked nervously. “ There’s enough room for both of us to fit together.” She 
said grabbing his hand. He blushed and they entered the path. Asuku hold was tight. Goku figured she was 
scared of the dark or something like that. As they walked on a burst of air came up against them and blew 
the candle out. Asuku screamed out in fear. 
	“ Asuku!” Vegeta turned and started running towards her voice. 
	“ Asuku its okay.” Goku whispered to her. He could feel her tears against his arm. She had 
wrapped herself in his hold. She trembled with fear.
	“ Don’t stop talking.” She finally confessed. “ I’m afraid of being alone.” She held on tighter, as if 
she was scared he would leave her. 
	“ Okay…” Goku started and they started to move towards the opening. He kept on talking like he 
said he would. “ Asuku it’s going to be alright.” Goku whispered to her. She had stopped crying but he 
could see the glimmer of the tears left in her eyes. 
	“ They must have gone in here.” Shino pointed to the long path that the two had just entered. 
	“ Yeah come on!” He said pulling her in. Vegeta yelled out. “ Asuku are you there?”
	“ Huh? Vegeta!” Asuku cried out. But to Goku’s pleasure Asuku didn’t let go of his body and she 
didn’t seem less scared when she heard Vegeta’s voice.  
	“ Asuku. Look it’s the opening!” Goku smiled. 
	“ Finally.” Asuku sighed. 
	“ Asuku stay where you are.” She heard Vegeta yell again. They had already exited the path. 
	“ What the?” Goku cried out in shock. 
	“ It’s still dark. And this is the path is the only way out.” Asuku realized what Goku was getting 
at. 
	“ What did you do to her?” Vegeta growled at Goku and came in between the two. When he saw 
Asuku in his arms he totally flipped out. Then and there he decided never to leave them together again. 
Asuku ran over to Shino, who was holding her candle. 
	“ What happened?” Shino asked curiously. 	
	“ There was this wind and our light went out and I was scared and Goku made everything better.” 
Asuku said in one breath. “ So don’t get mad at him.” Asuku sternly stated to Vegeta. Vegeta scowled at 
Goku then agreed. 
	“ So what had you freaked?” Shino asked. 
	“ There is no way for there to be that much wind. It was almost strong enough to blow us down.” 
Goku stated. 
	“ That doesn’t make any sense.” Vegeta said, he had now moved away from Goku and was beside 
Asuku. Suddenly a cold chill filled the air and a horrible laugh echoed through the cave. 
	“ Ah! What is that!” They heard Aseriana yell from the cliff above them. 
	“ Aseriana-Chan?” Asuku tried to make out her figure. 
	“ Yeah I heard that laughter then I saw that thing!” She pointed out at the middle of the cave 
where the large rock in the middle was moving. 
	“ The great one was wrong…you aren’t perfect at all!” The voice echoed. Aseriana jumped off the 
cliff and landed beside them. 
	“ What are you talking about?” Shino exclaimed, unhappily. “ I hate fighting and we just finished 
a battle a while ago so get lost.” She sneered but a strong wind blew her back into a near by wall. 
	“ Shino-San!” Goku called out. Asuku’s eyes widened and looked at the figure, through the 
darkness of the cave and the two little candles. 
	“ It was you…” She felt her anger growing and growing. 
	“ Allow me to introduce my self.” The voice echoed once again. It’s emptiness and coldness made 
their spines shiver but the worst part was it echoed through their heads. 
	“ Go on…” Vegeta studied him angrily. 
	“ I am Yukisanto.” He sneered back at them. 
	“ A rabbit?” Asuku asked remembering her work in Chinese mythology. The animal sneered 
again. It was bigger…bigger than a house. It stood on two legs and was covered in a unique armor. Its head 
was shaped of that of a rabbit but its head was covered by a helmet of some kind. He may have looked 
ridiculous but as he charged towards them they noticed he was faster than anything they had even 
encountered or even seen. Shino was still unconscious on the wall and Goku soon joined her. Aseriana was 
getting more and more tired even minute. 
	“ Your turn little princess.” He smirked and charged towards her. She was thrown out of the way 
by Vegeta and he was hit with Yukisanto’s attack.  
	“ Veggie-kun.” Asuku screamed out in shock. She knelt down beside him and felt herself flush 
with anger. But try as she might she, Yukisanto seemed bent on destroying her and she he used his full 
power to succeed and was soon knocked out and Aseriana was the only one left. The battle raged on and it 
looked like Yukisanto was winning but one by one each of them came to (except Asuku).
	“ Together we can win.” Shino whispered as they all gathered together. Vegeta held Asuku in his 
arms and waited for what anyone had planned. He was stubborn, but would never endanger Asuku. 
	“ We’ll pull our power together.” Aseriana began. 
	“ And unleash it on him!” Goku finished. 
	“ Oh your awake? Hmm well it doesn’t matter I’ll prove the great one wrong and I’ll get all the 
praise…that you are not perfect and you’ll never have the chance to be.” Yukisanto sneered once again. 
	“ Ready?” Goku asked looking back at Vegeta. He nodded. Aseriana, Shino and Goku turned 
super saiyan and charged towards Yukisanto. Vegeta, still holding Asuku, began to gather energy from 
Yukisanto and throw it back at him. Yukisanto began to feel weak and his vision blurred so he couldn’t 
make out where they were coming from. 
	“ This is the end.” Aseriana laughed. She faced him and the other two were beside her. 
	“ KA...ME…HA…ME…HA!” They each fired off a super powerful kamehameha. 
	“ Impossible!” Yukisanto yelped. It burned him and his body began to disappear. But before he 
left he began to laugh again.
	“ Why are you laughing?” Vegeta asked angrily. 
	“ You’ll see my brothers will soon be here to show you why. This isn’t over…it’s only begun.” 
With that he disappeared. 
	“ Great…just great.” Shino dropped to her knees and sighed. “ I hate fighting…nothing every 
comes out of it but sorrow and…”
	“Hunger!” Goku input. He rubbed his stomach. “ I’m hungry let’s eat.” Aseriana and Shino 
giggled. 
	“ Yeah we should go and try and wake her up.” Vegeta added. 
	“ Vegeta just agreed with Goku…never thought I’d see that.” Shino said in shock. Aseriana 
nodded and they all moved on. 
	“ Huh…where am I?” Asuku sat up slowly and rubbed her eyes. “ I’m so tired.” She yawned. “ So 
anyone got any food…I’m hungry!” She quickly stated. She sat beneath a large oak tree in the school yard 
beside her brother and Goku. She was surround by her class and her teachers. 
	“ Your okay!” Shino wrapped her hands around Asuku’s neck. 
	“ Why wouldn’t I be?” Asuku asked nervously. 
	“ Don’t you remember anything?” Vegeta asked, making sure she didn’t have amnesia. 
	“ Well I remember asking for something to eat!” She stared at him. “ Now else Veggie-Kun.” 
	“ Stop calling me that!” He yelled at her and began to chase her. “Looks like she has her 
memory…now is that a good thing?” 
	“ So she’ll probably never remember…” Goku whispered to himself, remembering the cave. 
	“ Get back here and say that again!” Vegeta shook his fist as she repeated the name. 
	“ Okay Veggie-Kun!” She laughed and ran within the cherry blossoms.
