| Vampires The picture above left is of Vlad Tepes. The word Tepes means impaler, and he was given this due to his reputation of impaling his enemies upon a stake. Vlad, otherwise known as Count Dracula was the original Vampire. The name 'Dracula' was given due to the fact that his father was named 'Dracul', it meant 'Dragon' to show that he was part of the Order of the Dragon, a holy roman order. His son was given the name 'Dracula' which means 'Son of the Dragon', but was also interpreted to mean 'Son of the Devil'. Vlad's home was in Transylvania, now Northern Romania, however, the first vampires came not from the traditional Transylvania, but from Wallachia, now Southern Romania, where Vlad ruled in later life. Vampires are ultimately creatures of evil who cannot walk by daylight. They are the undead, they drink blood. They are said to be killed by a stake through the heart, and holy water and crosses will burn them. They have no reflection. |
| Werewolves The picture on the above right is depicting a werewolf. Werewolves, and other lycanthropes are humans who have been bitten by a werewolf (or what other creature), and under a full moon they take the shape of a werewolf. Werewolves are usually perfectly normal human beings most of the time, but at a full moon when they transform, they lose all humanity, though they keep a humanoid shape. Despite the fact that werewolves cannot help being what they are and are normal the rest of the time, they are often mistrusted among our society. Werewolves are said to eat human flesh, they prefer that of a child. Nowadays, lycanthropy can be cured in it's early stages, and wolfbane potion is available so that when the transformation is imminent the human may take the potion and keep his mind when in wolf shape. |
