Welcome to the first edition of the Katie's Book Review Newsletter! I plan to put this out every month, or every other month, depending on how much updating there is going on at the site. It's to keep you informed of updates, what books have been reviewed, and other book related information.
As always, I encourage everyone to send in reviews. Sure, I can do all the reading myself, but that means there aren't as many books on there as there could be! So join in, all you have to do is submit your review (and a rating if you want) and I will post the book's picture and put it on my site. Also, if you are a new reviewer, let me know if you would like your e-mail posted along with your reviews.
Thanks for reading and I hope you
enjoy my newsletter,
Katie
NEWEST REVIEWS
This is the Newest Reviews section. From newsletter to newsletter I will put this section in here telling what the new posts are from between those time periods. The reviews themselves wont be on here, so you will have to visit the web site for them! So now that you know, here's what's new:
Harry
Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been read and reviewed by me. Additional
reviews by you can still be posted!
Pure
Temptation was read and reviewed by me. Again, additional reviews can still
be submitted and posted along with mine.
WHAT'S NEXT?
This section can actually be found on the main page of my site, but I decided to add it here because I can. So, what's next is:
'Long
Hot Summoning' by Tanya Huff. It's the third in the Keeper Chronicles and
I have high expectations for it, as I enjoyed the last two immensely.
NEW IN BOOK NEWS
This section will be me attempting to keep up with the world of books. Hopefully I will find some good sources as to what books are coming out soon, and progress of some are coming (like your Harry Potter books for example.) Since this newsletter is the first, it will probably be the worst as I try to sort everything out, but they will get better! Anyway, here's what this section will contain:
It appears that Julie Kenner, author of Cat's Fancy (reviewed on my web site) had a new book come out on the 6th of May. It's called 'Aphrodite's Secret' and it available at book shoppes now. I've actually seen this book in the small book section at Publix. Anyway, here's what the author has to say about it:
"It's just a few more days until APHRODITE'S SECRET hits the stands ... mark your calendars for May 6 for the third novel in Julie's superhero series! (can you say "beach book"?!?)" - Taken from Julie Kenner's web page.Eboni Snoe also had a new book come out in May of this year. It stars the cast of The Passion Ruby (reviewed on my site) and it is called A Diamond's Allure. Here's what the author has to say:
'A Diamond's Allure'
"You can be with the mysterious, intellectual
Hennessy "Hawk" Jackson, and daring Sienna Russell, while they finally
confront their darkest fears for themselves and humanity. The catalyst
for it all...a herkimer diamond!" -Taken from Eboni
Snoe's site.
Mary Balogh has several new books coming out. I can't imagine an author writing so quickly! She has a book that came out in May and one in June! She also has several lined up for the near future. Here are the details:
Under the Mistletoe
Coming out in October, 2003 . . . trade
paperback anthology
Slightly Tempted
Coming out in January, 2004--Morgan's
story
Slightly Sinful
Coming out in April, 2004--Alleyne's story
For more details visit her web site.
New from Mercedes Lackey is 'Joust'. It's
now available in Hardback at book shoppes everywhere.
For more information on 'Joust' visit the special part of Mercedes Lackey's web site here. That's all for New In Book News - I think it should keep you busy for a while!
AUTHOR'S SPOTLIGHT
This edition's newsletter is dedicated to none other than J.K. Rowling (that's Row-ling, like row your boat.) Her newest addition of her Harry Potter series has fans jumping for joy. Of course, their hearts might change after they read the book. Slightly depressing, but thoroughly wonderful, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix could be the best book thus far. So let's look further into the history of this author, and how Harry Potter came to be.
The following was taken from Meet
J.K. Rowling at Scholastic.com
"The idea that we could have a child who escapes from the confines of the adult world and goes somewhere where he has power, both literally and metaphorically, really appealed to me."Like that of her own character, Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling's life has the luster of a fairy tale. Divorced, living on public assistance in a tiny Edinburgh flat with her infant daughter, Rowling wrote Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at a table in a café during her daughter's naps — and it was Harry Potter that rescued her. First, the Scottish Arts Council gave her a grant to finish the book. After its sale to Bloomsbury (UK) and Scholastic Books, the accolades began to pile up. Harry Potter won The British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year, and the Smarties Prize, and rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. Book rights have been sold to England, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Greece, Finland, Denmark, Spain and Sweden.
A graduate of Exeter University, a teacher, and then an unemployed single parent, Rowling wrote Harry Potter when "I was very low, and I had to achieve something. Without the challenge, I would have gone stark raving mad." But Rowling has always written; her first book was called "Rabbit." "I was about six, and I haven't stopped scribbling since."
For Rowling, the change in her fortunes has been slightly bewildering. But her daughter has no doubt about her mother's new career: when asked what mommies do, she replies without hesitation, "Mommies write!"
