Anna Karenina, a classic novel by the author of War and Peace. While this book had high points, in basically boils down to a Russian soap opera. An affair brings a husband's sister to Moscow, to help solve the problems, and while there she gets into an affair of her own. At the same time, there is the story of another character struggling with his life, that ties in with the rest of the characters. Overall, the book has an interesting story line, but I find extremely long winded. For an 800 page book I feel it could have told the story in about half. If you don't mind reading through endless pages of things that are redundant or have no real relevancy to you (which applies to anyone who is not studying Russian farming or society) it's a great book. I didn't exactly enjoy it, but it wasn't too horribly bad at all.
3 of 5 tails ~~~.

I read The Pearl for school. It was not fun and I would never have read it if I didn't have to. It was about how material things corrupt people, in this case an Inidan family and the town that surrounds them. It doesnt have a happy ending and I don't think anything by Steinbeck does. I started reading another of his books that I also had to read for a book report and stopped because it was so depressing and sad. So, just because this book wasn't drawn out, thank goodness, I give it an almost unworthy 2 out of 5.
Final Thoughts: Just went you think it can't get any worse...it dOOOOoooooes! **
