I'm not going to go into the full detail of the nightmare that inspired 'The Night'. At the time I was having a reoccuring dream that constantly woke me up at the same time early in the morning in a cold sweat. It changed ever so slightly with each dream until I finally just stopped having it. Basically, I wrote this poem to get my frustrations down.
Through the shadows of the night
The predator hunts it's prey
Hungry gleaming eyes seen through a stream of moonlight
In my mind's eye is where the nightmare lay

Stalking through darkened dreams
I search madly but he is just out of my view
This silent killer drawn by my screams
The growing blackness surrounds me

Fear swallows me whole
In it's jaws my soul writhes
With the pain my mind takes the toll
No one can hear my pitiful cries

Another battle won by terror
I was weakened by it's bite
Nothing but bones on the floor of it's lair
I'm a victim of the night
