Thessaly: The Call

you shudder then go quiet
soft breath ceasing
willow green closing forever
I am frozen in disbelief

so still is your body
its spirit already passing
in agony and deepest pain
I am selfish in wanting you

a howl torn from my lips
in horror, fear, and anguish
my tie to the light
my heart has left me

tears run unchecked
my eyes blurring unseeing
to fall like softest rain
down upon your silent form

I pull you to me close
my hair shrouding your own
your death is just a prelude
I know I shall soon follow

my past my darkness
will take me along a different path
but without you here in this life
Tartarus will be sweet bliss

No! Do not leave me!
I strike your chest harshly
refusing to let your heart
so full of love, be lifeless forever

again I strike and yet again
my bitter sadness fuel to my insanity
I beg, plead with your soul
to return to me once more

I have lost everything
my heart turning black
as the long moments pass
my prayers unanswered from your lips

then sweetest breath
drawn through your pale lips
your very self, your soul
hearing my call, now returning

turning back from the eternal light
refusing the Fields and peace
to enter flesh in pain
opening your emerald eyes

still my tears fall
light fills the depths of my soul
my heart has retreated from the Fields
to walk beside me once again

This was rather difficult for me to write since I haven't experienced the death of anyone close. This poem was originally written to go alone, but when I was done I couldn't stop there so I wrote Thessaly: The Answer.
