Screams

darkness suffocates me
the dead of night an enemy
I stand alone and carry my sword
trying to stay off my doom

blood like water drips from my hands
finally the countless bodies lay still
my soul screams as they fall
all my friends, lovers, and family dead before me

a touch on my shoulder so gentle
a caress so sweet on my brow
a whispered word in my ear
assurances softly spoken

I awake confused, uncertain
my heart still pounding
the darkness has fled
but not the night

a smile from her lips
eyes concerned for me
a warm hand on my cheek
and I know I am safe
