Graellsia isabellae ova




  • Distribution. Mountainous region of central Spain and southern France. Occurs in the Durance valley near to Monginevro mountain (Bertacchini, Fiumi, Provera 1994).
  • Ovum. Medium size. Grey, covered with brown glue.
  • Foodplants. Pinus sylvestris Pinus laricio, Pinus nigra, Pinus marittima. The natural foodplant is Pinus sylvestris.
  • Larva. Last instar larva is green with red and white stripes on the dorsal surface. They need hot and dry conditions for rearing.
  • Cocoon. Waek, spun-up amongst the debris on the ground. May lay over for two years.
  • Adults. Wingspan 70-100 mm. Male and female tailed.
