The Legend of Little Jack Horner

Little Jack Horner, sat in a corner,
eating his Christmas Pie. He stuck in
a thumb and pulled out a plumb and
said, "What a good boy am I."

Click on Little Jack Horner for history of Ancestor, Sir John Horner, son of Thomas HORNER of Mells, member of Parliament and Sheriff of Somersetshire. His son, SIR JOHN HORNER, was knighted and was the "LITTLE JACK HORNER" of nursery rhymes, with sarcastic reference to the family having obtained lands formerly held by the Abbot of Glastonbury.

**Relating Sir Thomas Horner to the Sims/Symes family:

Amy was from a very illustrious family. Her brother, Sir John Horner, was also a High Sheriff and a very powerful politician. He is also the man about whom the poem "Little Jack Horner" was written about; [Probably her father Thomas, see their notes at:  http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thesimsfamily/sims/tree/9669.htm] The plum that is mentioned in the poem is an abbey/estate which he inherited. Another of her grandfathers, Alexander Popham, was the judge who presided over the trial of Sir Walter Raleigh. Alexander's wife, Jane Stradling who is your ancestor has ties to the English royal family.

Her father was Sir Thomas Horner of Cloford and Mells. Amy was Granddaughter of Sir John Popham, Kt. a Patron of the London Co. of Virginia and descendent of Edward III through his grandson Cardinal Henry de Beaufort and his mistress, Lady Fitz Alan.

She is buried at St. Peter's Chapel, Frampton, Cottrell, Gloucester, England.
