Sakura-Kinomoto Sakura



Sakura is in the 4th grade at Tomoeda Shougakkou (that's Tomoeda Elementary school for we mere mortals who can't read Japanese...). She released the Clow Cards by accident when she discovered the Clow book in her basement and opened it out of curiosity. A rather angry Kero, who appeared with the cards, informed her that since she'd released them she'd better go catch them all again, and so Sakura became CardCaptor Sakura. There's no doubt she's the one for the job-she's lively and energetic (she does cheerleading) and eager and she takes it all very seriously. She's also popular in school as she's really nice to everyone.
Sakura's best friends with Tomoyo (Madison), has a huge crush of Yuki (Julian) and also likes Shaolan (Li) a lot. She lives with her father, Fujitaka, and her brother Touya (Tori) in a really cool bright yellow house. Her mother, Nadeshiko, is sadly dead and it is obvious Sakura misses her, as one of the Clow Cards she tries to capture takes full advantage of this, appearing to her as her mother.
Sakura alway roller blades to school, which looks way fun. She's afraid of ghosts. Her name (I think this is lovely) means cherry blossom. ^_^

Madison-Daidouji Tomoyo

Tomoyo is probably my favourite character. She may appear a little eccentric-she videotapes Sakura almost all the time and sews her all Sakura's (very unusual) fighting costumes. However she's incredibly sweet, level headed, calm, polite and smart. She comes from a very rich family-female bodyguards go out with her when she goes out at night. She lives with her mother, Sonomi.
Tomoyo is Sakura's best friend and also likes her *a lot*. I think as time grows on she comes to know Sakura better than Sakura knows herself. She sings in a choir at school.

Li-Li Shaolan



Shaolan is a transfer student from Hong Kong. His family are related to Clow Reed, creator of the Clow Cards and he comes to Japan to find them. This at first makes him Sakura's rival, but he eventually chooses to work with her to capture the cards instead of against her. He is, however, a major rival of Touya, firstly because he is Sakura's rival, and Touya feels he must protect Sakura, and secondly because Shaolan likes Yuki (Julian), which Touya also does.
Shaolan's name is in fact Shao-Lang, Shaolan is the Japanese version. Shao-Lang, his Chinese name, means small wolf, which I thinks suits him considering his fierceness and determination.
As the series goes on he grows to like Sakura more and more.

Meiling-Li Meilin



Meilin is Shaolan's cousin and fiancee (their families arranged the marriage when they were little) and comes over to help him capture the Clow cards. She's very competitive and much prefers rivalry with Sakura than co-operation and is a fierce fighter. She has no powers of magic, but is good at martial arts.
Meilin is clearly intimidated by Sakura as she likes to keep Shaolan away from her. I think this is because Shaolan is really the only friend she's always had and she doesn't want to lose him, suggesting deep down, beneath her tough exterior, Meilin is quite insecure.
Meilin only appears in the anime.

Tori-Kinomoto Touya



17 year old Touya is Sakura's big brother. He is in his second year of Seijou High School. Touya is active-he's on the soccer team at school-and although he's always teasing Sakura he is really very protective. This leads him to seriously distrust Shaolan after he tries to attack Sakura when he first comes to Japan. He also doesn't like Shaolan because Shaolan likes Yukito (Julian), who is not only Touya's best friend, but also the person Touya really likes.
Touya has his own powers-he can see ghosts and see through the disguises of spirits, meaning he can sense Sakura is mixed with some kind of strange power, and though he does not get involved directly he's always looking out for her. However he eventually gives his powers to Yue, to keep him alive, entrusting Yue with Sakura's safety.
Touya's name means peach blossom.

Julian-Tsukishiro Yukito



Yukito, or Yuki as Touya calls him, is probably the best loved character in Cardcaptor Sakura. He's sweet and smart and loves helping people-for instance he helps out at school clubs altough he doesn't belong to any. He's admired by Sakura, Shaolan and Touya, but it is Touya whose affections he returns.
Yukito eats loads, seriously. On average it's like about 4 times what Touya eats, and Touya often finds himself sacrificing his lunch to satisfy the human vacuum that is his best friend, especially in the third series, when Yukito becomes very weak...
Yukito lives with his grandparents. His name, Yukito, means snow rabbit, and Tsukishiro means moon castle, appropriate given the circumstances...

Eli-Hiiragizawa Eriol



Eriol is an incarnation of Clow Reed and appears as a transfer student in Sakura's class, alongside guardians Spinel Sun and Nakuru, to force Sakura to change all the clow cards, which she must do once she has them all, to make them hers. He does this by setting up various tests in different locations, from swimming pools to ski slopes, which require her to change the Clow cards to complete them.
Although not exactly bad, Eriol does not come across as a pleasant person, despite the fact he appears outwardly polite and kind. The tests he makes Sakura does, though necessary, leave her drained of energy and are hard to complete, which he does not appear to care about at all. Also he flirts with Sakura, not because he likes her but to annoy Shaolan, which of course, Shaolan being Shaolan works very well. And Touya does trust him at all.

Spinel



Spinel (or Suppy as Ruby calls him) is like Eriol's version of Kero. His usual shape is one very similar to Kero's, but he's more of a black cat with wings. Also, like Kero, when magic is acted upon him he changes shape into the form of a panther with wings. He's there to help Eriol with his mission.

Ruby Moon/Nakuru Akizuki


Ruby Moon is really Eriol's answer to Yue. Ruby Moon is her true form-a tall woman with wings coming out of her back-but she is usually in the disguise of Nakuru Akizuki-a 17 year old girl, very similar to Yue's disguise of Yukito (Julian). She appears as a transfer student in Touya's class, and appears to have a thing for him. She likes sport and loves causing trouble-she does her very best to stop Touya figuring out the truth about Yukito for as long as humanly possible and is disappointed when she has to give it up.

Kero is the Guardian Beast (or Beast of Seal) of the book "The Clow." It duty is to watch over the Clow Cards to make sure they don't turn bad. However, it fell asleep... Without enough magic, Kero can't return to its true form, and stays like the shape of a stuffed animal until Sakura captures "The Earthy" and "The Firey." In Greek mythology, Cerberus, or Kerberos, is a three-headed dog with a serpent or dragon tail, which guards the entrance to the Underworld.

Fujitaka is Sakura and Touya's father. He is good at cooking and sewing. A very kind father, who has lost his young wife, Nadeshiko, when she was 27. He is a professor of archaeology at a university. He is very good at sports as well. "Fuji" in "Fujitaka" means ivy.

Nadeshiko was Fujitaka's wife, Touya and Sakura's Mother. She married Fujitaka when she was still a high school student, at the end of 16. But she died at the age of 27 when Sakura was only 3 years old. Sakura doesn't remember much about her mother, only through the stories her Father tells her. But she loves her mother very much. At the house, they always have a picture of Nadeshiko at the counter, either from magazine (her Father collected all her photos) or taken by Fujitaka. Nadeshiko was a beautiful and gentle woman. Her name, Nadeshiko, means the flower "pink."

Yue is the judge for the approval of Sakura's ownership of the Clow Cards. Yue in Chinese means Moon. Yue's symbol is the moon, an opposite of that of Kerberos. When Yue is in human form, he is actually Yukito Tsukishiro.

Clow is half Chinese and half British. His mother was from Li's side of the family, famed for being a powerful Taoist family. The most powerful magician the world has ever seen, Clow has mastered and combined the elements of the eastern and western schools of magic, creating his own type of magic. Creator of Yue (the moon and eastern magic), Cerberus (the sun and western magic) and the clow cards.

Clow had the uncontrollable ability to see the future which accounts for his odd nature, i.e. life's no fun when you know exactly what's going to happen. He foresaw that Sakura would be his successor and that Sakura would need a little help passing Yue's trials. He thus accordingly left the Moon Bell with Mizuki sensei's family shrine, situated in the very town where Sakura and her family would be moving to at the time she would have to start capturing the Clow cards. His Rashinban (compass) to track down the Clow cards was however, left with his mother's family ... and finally ends up with Syaoran whom he also foresaw would aid Sakura in her quest.
