Chapter Two:  The People

(To be read in a sweet voice)

It is morning in the jungle, with all the trees blocking the sun, and the people are waking up and coming out of their sleeping places in hollow trees.  One pulls a piece of loose bark from a tree and pops it in her mouth.  She makes a face and spits it out.  All around her, people are pulling off bark and leaves from the trees and tasting them.  When they taste the fruit, they keep on eating the fruit because they like it better than the bark and leaves.

Now rain is dripping through the leaves of the trees.  Now it is pouring, and the ground is flooded.  The people start playing in the rain and splashing and jumping around in the water.  While they are jumping, they are noticing that they are feeling cold – because they are wet, but they do not know that.  So they find the hollow trees and go into them to see if it’s warm, and they are warm so they stay inside the hollow trees.

One sticks her head out of her hollow tree.  It has stopped raining.  She points toward the sky and shouts, "UH!  UH!  UH!  UH!"  All the rest put their heads out of the trees and jump out along with her.

Then, one sees a crabanana.  The crabanana is climbing up a tree.  Suddenly, it disappears through the leaves and comes racing down again.  Then it starts shedding its skin.  The person watching sees green skin appearing.  He starts laughing like crazy.  Everybody looks at him with surprised faces, and he notices and points at the crabanana and shouts, "UH!  UH!  UH!  UH!"  They all look at the crabanana, and he looks happy.

Suddenly, everything starts to change.  It is getting darker and darker.  The people are scared.  They start to scream and cry in fear.  The people are feeling around for the hollow trees, in groups -- the groups that they have been playing with for most of the day.  They find the hollow trees and come into them in the same groups.  Then they cuddle up and start feeling happy.

Now, the people are all sleeping.  It is the middle of the night, and in one of the hollow trees, a baby wakes up and starts feeling around for a breast.  It finds breast after breast -- until it finds a breast with... milk!   Once the baby is happily sucking the breast, the woman whose breast the baby has found sighs happily.
