THE ROOM

Still, untouched, unmoving and silent
The echo of something, of a memory long gone
Emptiness ringing like a solitary bell
Until a knock on the door, no longer alone

A single step, tentative and unsure
And then another that leaves its mark
Then before you know what's happened to you
There is a deluge, a flooding of light in the dark

The curtains sweep aside with majestic grace
And the windows open, stale air turning pure
A glint of colour paints itself like technicolour
As a hum of sound becomes a furore

Life begins to beat, molten and screaming at first
Fight for what, it doesn't know, but strives all the same
But familiarity breeds comfort, and all begins to ease
And suddenly it seems this is the way it had always came

The world is changed for you, different but recognisable
Opportunity that you've slipped on like a glove
As I leave behind me footprints indelibly etched
On the room you call your love.
