SUNFLOWERS

This page was created for someone very near and dear to me that loves sunflowers. I will be adding more as time goes on.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines sunflower as:

1.a. Any of several plants of the genus Helianthus, especially H. annus, having tall coarse
stems and large, yellow-rayed flower heads that produce edible seeds
rich in oil. b. The seedlike fruit or seeds of the plant.
2. Color. A brilliant yellow to strong or vivid orange yellow.

There are 67 species of sunflowers, growing in the USA, Europe, Japan, and Russia.

The sunflower is not one flower, but a cluster of more then 2000 tiny flowers growing together.

A sunflower's head can grow to be as big as 2 feet across and the plant itself can be as tall as 18 feet.
