Mexican Riviera Cruise
Click
Three weeks after our return from Portugal and Spain we went on an eleven day cruise to the Mexican Riviera. John fell down three flights of stairs in Lisbon and separated his shoulder, so the cruise to Mexico was an "iffy" thing. The cruise was prepaid and we didn't get travel insurance...we would loose our money if we didn't go...so away we went.
I am so glad we went. We had a blast. We flew from Eureka to San Francisco and transferred to a plane to San Deigo. At the San Deigo airport our big suitcase broke. The airlines gave us a new-used piece of luggage. I couldn't believe it when the porter gave us a new-used piece of luggage. That set the tone for the whole trip. Click Don't worry...be happy!
Our first port of call wasClick We snorkeled off a catamaran called the "booze cruise."Click It was my first time snorkeling and I loved every minute of it.Click After snorkeling for an hour the tequila was poured and the trip lived up to it's name of the "booze cruise." Some men got so drunk they "mooned" other boats passing by. No, John was not one of the "mooners". HA!
Every night we ate too much, danced too much and were entertained like a king and queen, our bed was turned down and chocolates were placed on our pillows.
On toClick we went.Click Took a day trip through the countryside and shopped and shopped. Bought a couple of beautiful rings and several gifts for friends. "The Platters" were the headliners in the Entertainment Theatre, on the ship, that night. They were terrific. Brought back some wonderful memories with their music.
Next port of call wasClick. I had a cold and was not able to go ashore in Porta Vallarta.
On toClick Acapulco was a beautiful city.Click We went on a night tour which included the famous cliff divers.Click We took pictures of a wall inside the restaurant.Click It had signatures of famous people.Click We recognized many names. The next day we took a day trip and saw where Elizabeth Taylor and Madonna have a homes. Guess what color the fence around Elizabeth Taylor's place was?
Sometime during the cruise a costume party was held. We knew ahead of time that there would be a costume party and we came prepared. We brought our clown costumes. It was great fun dressing up and "clowning around."Click No one seemed to recognize us. HA! Everyone said we had the best costumes. First prizes were awarded to everyone who participated.
The Captain's Cocktail Party was a highlight of the cruise. John wore a black tuxedo and sequins vest and I wore a long black skirt and sequins blouse.Click We shook hands with the captain. It was an exciting evening. Everyone looked so nice. The Captain's Dinner Party was another highlight. Another evening for dressing up.Click John wore a white dinner jacket and I wore a long sparkley outfit. Because we have cruised with that cruise line in the past, we are members of the Crown and Anchor Club. We were invited to a special cocktail party for the Crown and Anchor Club. The captain was there. John and I danced and had a great time.
Click came next. Didn't go ashore there. My cold was acting up. Staying on the ship when we were in port was relaxing. John won $200 playing Bingo. There are many activities for those who stay aboard...or relax...or play
Click was our last port of call. It is a small little village, untouched by the hustle and bustle of tourism. We took a cab into the heart of the city. We shopped and strolled around the streets. People were friendly. It is a place I would enjoy returning to.
I have not mentioned the people we met during the cruise. We were with a group of people from the Independent Order of Foresters.Click Forty of us traveled together. We sat at dining tables together. We had a cocktail party to get acquainted. Wonderful group of people. We have traveled with the I.O.F. before and have always enjoyed their company. I can't say enough to express how much fun we had with this group of people.Click
John and I don't know where 1999 will take us, but you can be sure we will have a great time...as always.
