From Scott Andress:

I've been thinking how neat it would be to have RealAudio for WindowsCE 2.0 and PIE2. I posed the question to Real Networks and here is the response:

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in RealNetworks' RealSystem 5.0. Your email concerning RealAudio for the WindowsCE operating system has been received. Currently, RealNetworks has no plans to release a RealPlayer for the WindowsCE. This is primarily because of limitations on the sorts of handheld devices that WindowsCE is designed for. These limitations include processing power and audio playback. However, should these devices advance sufficiently to support the RealPlayer, it is quite possible RealNetworks will port the RealPlayer.

If you are interested in portable RealAudio, you may want to consider the Audible Player. For more information, please visit:

And here was my reply:

Thanks very much for your response. It is greatly appriciated. I would urge you, however, to re-examine the current crop of WindowsCE 2.0 devices. Most include at least a 75mHz RISC CPU, 16MB of built-in RAM, and good audio support (WAV's play just fine). I would think that these devices could handle RealAudio, but I could be wrong.

Thanks again,

Scott
