In response to market demand to support smaller three-tier configurations, a new license type that adds support for two new configurations has been added:

• Three-tier configurations a single database server and one or more application servers.
• Two-computer peer configurations in which each computer acts as an application server and as a database server for the other computer.
• This new license type is called Division and the license type that previously had that name is now called Department.
• New Division licenses are 15% - 65% lower than a corresponding size Enterprise license depending upon the number of processes.

Improved SQL Server OCI Support

A new and improved Oracle Call Interface (OCI) for use with Caché has been added. It is priced as a server-side component that is added on to a Caché Workgroup, Department, Division or Enterprise license.

Addition of Terminal-Only Licenses

To assist existing customers in adopting Caché, a Terminal-Only option has been added for Workgroup, Department, Division, and Enterprise licenses. As the name implies, these licenses support only terminal connectivity -- no GUI (other than InterSystems supplied utilities,) no Caché Direct, no ODBC, no OCI, no user-implemented client/server, and no WebLink.

• Terminal-Only licenses have a list price 25% lower than their full-function counterparts and normal discount and migration terms apply to these reduced list prices.
• A Terminal-Only license can be upgraded to a Full-Function license for 25% of the Full-Function license fee (at the time of the upgrade) less applicable discounts.
• Please note that Terminal-Only licenses are all or nothing: a computer either has a Terminal-Only license or a Full-Function license, not a combination of the two.

Elimination of Component Licenses

With the new Department and Division licenses, as well as the Terminal-Only option for all license types, the need for Component licenses has been eliminated. As a result, Component licenses have been eliminated. Any existing Component licenses will be converted to the equivalent new license type when the need arises, e.g. when the license is upgraded or transferred.

New Migration Offers

The migration offer from Open M to Caché, which expired on December 31, 1997, is replaced with a new migration offer to Division, Department and Enterprise licenses. See the migration article for full details.

DCP Connectivity

In order to simplify interoperability between existing ISM and DSM database servers and Caché, we have removed the need to install Open M Server on the ISM and DSM systems when connecting to Caché Enterprise and Division configurations.

Both Division and Enterprise license can be used to connect Caché and DSM systems or Caché and ISM systems via pop. Specifically, a DSM or ISM system can act as a database server for Caché Division and Enterprise systems. No additional networking license is required on the DSM or ISM system. (That is, no Open M/Server license is required on the DSM or ISM system.) The capability to provide this network connectivity is provided by the Caché Enterprise or Division license.

WebLink

Because of the increasing importance of Internet access:

• WebLink product packaging has been simplified. The distinction between WebLink and WebLink TP is eliminated-all WebLink licenses now have TP capabilities.
• WebLink (including TP capabilities) is now included in all Caché licenses (except for the new Terminal-Only licenses described above) with no additional license fee.
• WebLink for DSM, ISM and MSM is now priced on a per-server basis, rather than a per connection basis. A WebLink license is required for each DSM, ISM or MSM system that provides WebLink access. The WebLink license is priced based on the size of the DSM, ISM, or MSM license.
