If you want to learn the Java Programming language this book should be on
your list. If covers every aspect of Java and is packed with example you can try on a

Although everyone can catch up on it, if you are already
familiar with another programming language, you will be advantaged.
Patrick Naughton was involved in various Sun projects
relating to Java and Herbert Schildt is considered amongst the world's leading C/C++
authors. (People familiar with C/C++ will find specific notes about fundamental

The 1000 plus pages are mainly text and examples. You can
download these samples from Osborne's web site.
Highly recommended.
