Commitment
Harry's POV

Once upon a time, I didn't believe in a thing called commitment; back then, I was naive. That was probably the reason why nothing in my life ever lasted. Looking back I'm glad I never committed myself to anything then because that would have stopped me from committing myself to what I have now. I never want to lose this.

There they are; my wife and daughter, Nikki and Amy. Nothing can ever make up for how much love I have for them both but thanks to commitment, everything in my life is complete. My life is perfect.

It took a long time. I don't know why, but ever since Nikki stepped through those doors of the lab, the feeling of coming into work everyday changed. It wasn't so much for the science and mystery, but for that glowing smile that belonged to an equally radiant person.

When I first kissed her, I could tell she was shocked. When we first spent the night together I could tell there was no regret. Sometimes I can only wonder at why she's stayed by my side, when I remember the times when I'd been harsh, selfish and spiteful. The times when I found myself reeling with guilt, but she was still there for me, the one person who means everything to me, forgives me every time.

Having never been so happy and having felt a love like I never have before, I asked her to marry me; nothing had ever felt so right and Nikki made my dream come true and became my wife.

Work stayed the same but we grew, everyday, the bonds between us grew stronger, binding us for eternity, commitment acting like glue.

Then it happened. Amy happened. The next best thing since the love of my life. I remember the birth, our daughter's arrival causing panic and anxiety. I remember us both watching our tiny premature baby wrapped in blankets and draped in wires, we committed ourselves then to save our daughter, we committed ourselves to comfort one another.

Amy is a vibrant, flourishing 15 year old, full of intelligence and life. She is thoroughly engrossed in our work and has solved Leo's filing problems forever. The spark she carries when she smiles or laughs, or takes her mother's arm as they wander off shopping with my credit card. It all makes me certain: the commitment is definitely worth it.
