Episode three, Series ten.

Turns out Harrys ex-girlfriend was murdered by her crazy and jealous mother, who Harry slept with. Yeah, I found it ridiculous too. But all is well in the end because Harry watches Nikki get dressed and does eye!sex with her in the middle of the lab. Oh, and apparently Leo had a case too, but no one really knows what his case was because everyone was too busy watching Harry and Nikki to give a toss.

Episode Three - A Body Of Work [part one].

I love and I hate this episode for various reasons. I think most Silent Witness fans love the first ten minutes, simply because most Silent Witness fans like Harry/Nikki. Which is very nice. Im all for Harry/Nikki (although to be honest, Id chose friendship over a screwed up romance any day). Its just the rest of the episode I dont like because, well, I just dont like it. But, anyway, recap time. The parents have finally left me alone to paint walls or whatever so I can watch this on the DVD player in peace.

The episode begins with a rather blurry (artistic, I presume) Nikki whacking someone over the head. I actually thought for a minute that Nikki had turned murderer, but no, she is just conducting an experiment for a bunch of really boring Scientists. Harry happens to be among them. Turns out Harry and Nikki are at a conference. Some really boring woman lectures them about commitment to profession. Harry writes notes to Nikki because apparently he finds this as boring as I do. He and Nikki decide to skip the lecture and find a pub. Nikki wears a really nice skirt, if anyones curious. She then proceeds to rant about she has no boyfriend and no friends and nothing very exciting ever happens to her. And I love her hair. God, shes so pretty. Anyway, then Harry kisses her in a rather perfect moment. I love the writers of Silent Witness sometimes. I also love the look on Nikkis face.

Anyway, we then cut to some guy dying in a tank. Which is boring (and for Gods sake get back to Harry and Nikki!). No one cares about some guy in a tank!

Harry walks into work and professionally asks Nikki how she is. They then have a very cute conversation, until Leo interrupts and asks how the conference was. I think he senses something is going on between them. In the cutest possible way, Harry invites Nikki out for dinner. I still love the writers.

Leo arrives at a big church and meets Nicola Hills. Shes really annoying, so Ill try and ignore her for the rest of the recap. Anyway, the two of them enter the church. I love all the art in there, actually. Its conceptual, apparently. I love it. Anyway, the creator, Jimmy Triangle, is dead in his tank with a bullet wound in his head. The tank is full of formaldehyde. Im not really one for art, but I can see why people would like his art. Its imaginative and it says something. But enough of my wafflings about art. The body was found by Luke Crispin, who bought most of Jimmys art. Luke thinks Jimmy is a twit for killing himself over a bad review. He also says Jimmy called him at 3am, but he only picked it up at 7am. According to him, he went off to check on Jimmy as soon as he heard the message, and found the body in the tank. Nicola wonders what he sees in Jimmys art. I feel like shouting God, shut up woman, youre annoying and while youre on screen we dont get to see Harry and Nikki!.

But, luckily, we cut back to Harry and Nikki. Nikki is happily typing away on Harrys computer whilst he tells her where theyre off to have dinner that night. He then removes her from his desk and theres a lot of close proximity that makes all rabid shippers squee with delight.

Harry then has to disappear off downstairs because someone has died, apparently. The dead person was found at the wheel of a car. Harry checks her out and then realises she looks somewhat familiar. Well, she should look familiar: Harry and this chick were screwing like bunnies at college. Anyway, Nikki has to go take-over because Harry wants to vomit. Or just be dramatic. Nikki checks out the body too and is introduced to Grant Ambrose, who is totally cool. Hes probably one of the few detectives on this program recently who arent obnoxious and / or annoying. Harry cannot do the autopsy because he knew Penny Harris when they were at college. Because they were screwing like bunnies.

Nikki leaves Penny in a fridge to go check on Harry, see how he is. She says she has nightmares about that happening, that its her dad on the slab. From this, I think we can assume she made up with her dad after the events of Meaning of Death and the two are now playing at happy families. Or something like that. Harry says he went out with Penny for about a year.

The annoying detective is being untactful and dense about art. A guy named Eggie wanders in. He is, apparently, Jimmys assistant. Eggie says he last saw Jimmy yesterday, but he left about nine 0clock to go to Brighton. Eggie says the head in the tank is Julian Bickley, Jimmys agent. Jimmy didnt think Julian did enough to earn his 15%. Eggie thinks a lot of people would want to kill Jimmy.

Ambrose, meanwhile, is listening to groovy music and visiting Edward Harris, Pennys husband. He tells Edward about Pennys death. Edward says he was in Birmingham overnight and he has no idea why Penny was driving through Richmond Park.

Oh God, its the annoying detective again. Im still trying to ignore her, but its not really working. Leo does pathology things. Im fairly sure he doesnt find anything that interesting. To be honest, apart from the cool art involved, this case is seriously boring. I wish Leo got better storylines sometimes. I also wish the police detectives werent so obnoxious and / or annoying.

Harry is off looking for the tox results of a William Mackey. Leo talks to Harry about it not being very nice to come across someone you once knew. He also says that the SIO has brought the husband in. Nikki goes to talk to Edward and get him to formally identify Penny. I love her belt in this scene.

Harry also goes to talk to Edward. Its like a family reunion! Except Edward isnt that happy to see Harry. And theyre not family. But whatever. Harry offers his sympathies. I like his shirt and jean combo here. Edward tells Harry that Penny hadnt been herself recently. Harry tells him to talk to Nikki about it. Edward does. He thinks Penny was having an affair. Well, actually, he knows she was seeing someone because he stalked her and accidentally found out she was playing away. Well, thatll teach him to stalk people, wont it! Anyway, he saw her having a glass of wine with a dashing young thing in a caf. He did not, however, confront Penny with this because he was afraid she might have another breakdown. Nikki looks over at Harry.

And theres yet another bit with Leo and his annoying detective. Leo says the writing on the side of the tank (the death of the conceptual artist) was stage blood. Frank enters. I love Frank. Hes such a cool geek. He was also in Meaning of Death and hes probably been in a couple of other episodes too. Anyway, he has a drawing of what happened to Jimmy. From this drawing, he has discovered that Jimmy was turning his head to the left.

Ambrose and Nikki are talking about Ambroses kids. I would kill to have Nikkis skirt. Actually, I would kill to look like Emilia Fox. But I digress. Nikki tells Harry to go away (not in those words; nicer, obviously). Nikki is getting all excited about her date with Harry. Harry is not so enthusiastic. He is trying to keep his mind on the job and look at tox reports. Unfortunately, he ends up watching Nikki do the autopsy on Penny. Nikki does pathology things. Apart from the fact that it has Emilia Fox looking pretty, this scene is not very interesting.

However, the next scene is even less interesting: the annoying detective is once more being annoying. She thinks Jimmy topped himself. But she is about to be proved wrong: the prints on the gun dont match Jimmys. I get a rather sadistic sense of pleasure every time annoying people like her are proved wrong.

Nikki is still cutting up Penny (and my DVD player is making worrying noises, so I may have to stop now and return to this another day). She finds three tablets in Pennys stomach as well as some red wine and a powdery residue. Harry watches sadly as Nikki slices up more of Pennys organs and takes a look at her heart. (Oh, its okay: turns out it was the video player making funny noises. I think it may have killed my Dads video tape, but who cares? It was only Time Team or something equally crap.)

Leo and the annoying detective are discussing alibis. Eggie was in Brighton, Crispin was at home with his wife, but Bickley has no alibi. So Nicola drives off to talk to Julian. She slags off Jimmy; Julian joins in with the slagging off. Now, Im all for slagging people off, but isnt it a bit mean, especially given that since Jimmys dead, he cant defend himself? Nicola tells Julian that Jimmy didnt kill himself. She takes Julians prints to check against those found on the guns.

Cut to Seth, an art critic, and his female friend. She shows him pictures of dead Jimmy. She thinks maybe he should write a piece. Seth doesnt think its his fault that Jimmy killed himself and wont write a response about Jimmy. He says hes an art critic, not a writer of obituaries.

Harry and Nikki, meanwhile, are on their date. I like Nikkis hair. I still wish I had hair like that. Harry enquires about Penny. Nikki says a tox related death is quite likely. Nikki enquires about Harrys relationship with Penny. He says it was intense, passionate. You know what? I dont think Nikki actually wanted details on how passionate Harrys sex life was when he was with Penny. But never mind. She asks if Penny was love of his life intense, or youthful fling intense. He says a bit of both. Well, thats a nice way to start your first date Harry puts it down to being young and eighteen. He says Penny was quite wild and glamorous. She was a rich heiress: her father is Max Wheaton. He owns a big company or something.

Cut to Nikki and Ambrose listening to Goldfrapp. Dude. I love Goldfrapp. They are talking to Edward about him being a suspect. Harry is driving to Richmond Park to check out the tree that Penny hit. Considering hes not supposed to be working on this case, hes very involved in this case. Anyway, Nikki tells Edward that its possible Penny died of an overdose. Edward says Penny knew her anti-depressants didnt mix well with alcohol. Actually, most drugs dont mix well with alcohol, so dont try a cocktail of asprin and whiskey any time soon. Its bad for you. My dad once had medication for his tooth that specifically said that drinking whilst on said medication could cause hallucinations and psychosis. It amuses me that the next day he stayed with a friend and ended up getting somewhat drunk. Apparently, he didnt have any hallucinations. But, still, dont try that yourself. But I digress. Ambrose asks if Edward knows why Penny may have taken her own life. He says he doesnt know, but that she hadnt been unfaithful before. He then says that she left a message on his phone: whatever people may say, Im not a hussy. Harry is still staring at the tree in Richmond Park. Ambrose asks if Penny has tried to commit suicide before. Edward says she took an overdose in college, and that if they want to know why, they should talk to Harry because it was all his fault.

Leo is looking at the pictures of dead Jimmy on the internet. The annoying detective has also seen them. Leo thinks theyre socco shots.

Nikki asks Harry if he knew what happened to Penny. Harry had no idea Penny took an overdose after they broke up. He was out of the country; Edward found her.

Leo asks Nikki if everything between her and Harry is okay. He says hes there, if she wants to talk. I love his fatherly act. Anyway, Julian Bickleys prints dont match those on the handgun. Leo opens a parcel to find a video tape of Seth Jewell and Jimmy talking. Its been edited to show Seth in a really bad light. Clever editing. Leo thinks someone is messing them about. The annoying detective goes to check out the studio. She talks to Eggie. Eggie says Jimmy filmed every conversation he had: he had a hidden camera.

Nikki asks Harry if he wants to come to the inquest. He says hell sit at the back. Apparently, he doesnt want to see Pennys parents right now. Nikki waffles on about pathology things. Ambrose waffles on about police things. Pennys parents bitch about Harry. I have a jacket like Nikkis, except mines green and hers is darker. But, hey, its a nice jacket. Ambrose tells Nikki theyve got a sketch of the guy Penny met in the caf from some CCTV footage. Later, he and Nikki watch the footage. Harry watches them watch the footage.

Harry reads the post-mortem file on Penny. Nikki says she was very beautiful. Harry agrees. Well, Harry would: he went out with her. Harry says Edward and Penny never had children. Nikki says Penny had definitely given birth.

Ambrose goes to see a woman who recognised the sketch. She says the guy was a student, but not in London. He told her his name was Simon and that sometimes he stayed with a friend in London. Ambrose is very unprofessional and starts copying CDs for his mp3 player. During his illegal copying, he notices a files called Wheatons on the computer. Max Wheaton was Pennys step-father. Ambrose also finds a mobile number next to the computer.

Max Wheaton, meanwhile, receives a phone call from an angry shareholder. The guy calling is the one from the CCTV footage. Simon says now Max doesnt have to give Penny the money she was after. Max says he has no stake in this family. Simon disagrees.

In the mean time, Leo and the annoying detective are interviewing Seth. I like Seth. Leave the poor guy alone! Anyway, Seth says Jimmy wanted to bury the hatchet and that was why he met with Jimmy that day. Seth says he quite liked Jimmy, but he just didnt like his work. Seth says the meeting went well and it was friendly. Seth didnt know Jimmy had filmed him. When he sees the footage, he says it shows only a small portion of what he and Jimmy talked about and that it has been very cleverly put together. Leo takes Seths prints and DNA. Turns out, the prints on the gun belong to Seth. The annoying detective thinks everyone involved is a tosser. God, shut up woman!

Harry has gone off to visit Edward. He tells Edward that Penny had had a child. Edward says Penny didnt have a child. He couldnt have them. Edward is not pleased to see Harry. Hes rather pissed that Harry was off skiing when Penny was taking overdoses and being miserable. Theres a lot of shouting, after which Harry walks out.

Simon, meanwhile, is throwing red paint all over the floors at Wheatons. I have a feeling he may dislike Max Wheaton.

Seth is doing an interview with some woman. I still like Seth. Unfortunately, Seth is about to be arrested.

Max Wheaton is once more accosted by Simon. Simon wants Max to admit what hes done. Max says its all Simons fault.

Nikki sits on a table, looking miserable. She yells at Harry for getting involved in the case. Leo interrupts to ask if everything is okay; both of them lie and say its fine. Nikki says it scares her when Harry doesnt talk to her. Harry says if Penny had a child, it might be his. When they were at uni, she got pregnant. He asked her to have an abortion. She broke up with him because she couldnt be with someone who would ask such a thing. I find it hard to believe that Harry, even an eighteen year old Harry, would ask someone to have an abortion. Its completely out of character, in my opinion. Anyway, he assumed shed had the abortion. Harry walks out on Nikki. Nikki bursts into tears. God, I hate Harry sometimes.

Harry is currently driving through some pretty countryside, thinking about Penny. He really is being a moron in this episode. The episode concludes with Harry driving through country lanes, apparently going somewhere.

At the end of this episode, I threatened to write horrible emails to the BBC, complaining that they were killing their characters and Harry was being a total plank. I was, to say the least, very unimpressed. Only re-watching the first ten minutes again and again stopped me emailing the BBC because the first ten minutes were perfectly written and just perfect for a moment between Harry and Nikki.

Episode Three A Body Of Work [part two].

Harry, it seems, is still driving to where it is hes headed. Nikki is still texting him to find out where he is and whats going on. And she still looks like shes been crying. Leo kindly asks her how its going. She says she doesnt know about Harry. Leo is looking at her in that way. Hes worried about her but he doesnt want to interfere. He just wants to make sure shes alright. Which is sweet. Nikki still looks upset though. And Harry is still driving. He stops his car to read the text: where are you? N.

The annoying detective is drawing a picture of Seths name behind bars. Stephanie walks in and tells the annoying that the shots from the internet: they arent her socco shots. Yay, Stephanie didnt do anything wrong! Leo now thinks that whoever took the internet pictures wanted everyone to know about Jimmy.

Harry has at last arrived at his destination (Surrey, which is fucking miles away from London and it must have taken him for-fucking-ever to get there) and he comes bearing flowers. Apparently, this is the Wheaton family home. Pennys mum comes out and says Harry C! rather happily. I dislike her already. She says he looks just the same, apart from the horrible scarf he used to wear. I like people who wear scarves. One of the Doctors from Doctor Who wore a funky scarf and travelled with Sarah Jane, thus making him an uber cool doctor. But I digress.

Ambrose is now chatting with Pennys step-father, Max. Max tells him the paint in the lobby is the work of an angry shareholder. Anyway, Ambrose asks Max if he recognises the young man Simon from the CCTV footage. Max says no. Bloody liar we all know you recognise him because hes the one whos been defacing your office floor and harassing you all hours of the day! Ambrose tells Max that Penny may have been having an affair with Simon and that Simon had Maxs mobile number. Max says he hasnt had any calls from Simon. Again, liar!

Anne, Pennys mother, is talking to Harry in their living room. Anne thinks Harry is a charmer. Harry thinks it feels strange being back. At this point, I had to pause the DVD because my auntie rang up to tell me there was a toad in her back garden and to send my sister round to see it. Amusingly, the DVD pause on a rather hilarious shot of Anne with her eyebrows raised and her face looking like shed had some serious surgery done to it. How amusing. Anyway, on with the recap. Anne thinks Nikki is a pretty girl. I have to say, I agree: shes stunning, is she not? Anne invites Harry to stay for dinner.

Leo and Frank are doing things in the room with the shiny board. Leo, I think, is looking at the positions of the fingerprints on Jimmys gun. To summarise, no one could hold a gun at that angle and shoot someone, ergo Seth did not shoot Jimmy.

Anne is busy telling Harry that he was the best boyfriend Penny ever had. She says she doesnt hold it against Harry that things between he and Penny ended badly. Harry says he never thought she was ill. I find this hard to believe, given that Harrys father suffered from depression and as a result killed himself. I think if my father suffered from depression and then killed himself, I would be on the lookout for the signs in other people. But never mind: we can blame Harry failing to notice that Penny was also depressed on the fact that he was young and ignore that it seems slightly unrealistic for him not to even consider her possibly being mentally ill. Anne holds his hand and is generally nice. Anne thinks some people are not meant to have children and that Penny and Edward were unable too. Apparently, Anne knows nothing of Penny and children. She also thinks that Harry would make a good father.

Ambrose and Nikki are talking. I love her hair, I really do. Nikki gets the tox reports for Penny and finds that Penny had far more medication in her system that she should have done, and that the three pills found in her stomach are not enough for that kind of toxicity, which means someone else probably crushed up the rest of the medication and poisoned her.

Back to Leo and Frank. Frank is being cute and explaining how to fake fingerprints. Since Im sure none of you will ever need to fake fingerprints, I wont go through all the details, but its quite interesting, I suppose. But the long and short of it is that someone else put Seths prints on the gun after Jimmy was dead. See, told you someone as nice as Seth wouldnt shoot Jimmy!

So the annoying detective and Leo go off to see Luke Crispin. Luke loves Jimmys work. The annoying detective is still annoying me. Leo likes Caravaggio. Luke shows them where Jimmys final work was going to be. The annoying detective tells Luke that Jimmy was murdered. Leo wants Lukes jacket to check for gun shot residue.

Nikki and Ambrose are watching the CCTV again. Nikki says Simon didnt poison Simon in the caf because it was too early. They still havent found Simon.

Leo asks Harry how the tox report on William Mackey is going. Harry says hell do it right now. Leo says he wants the old Harry back. Harry tells Nikki that Penny didnt have a child. Nikki says she does have a child. Harry wants her to check the PM. Nikki shouts at Harry; Harry grabs her. I want to hit Harry. Really hard. Nikki does check the PM: she was right, Penny has given birth. Nikki tells Harry that Penny may have been deliberately poisoned. I still want to hit Harry.

Leo and the annoying detective are watching a video sent into them of Jimmy shooting himself. Frankly, I dont give a toss about the video or about the case. Why does Leo have to have such shit cases?

Nikki is watching the CCTV again. She has discovered something: theres nothing romantic between Simon and Penny. Well, duh. I couldve told you that the first time I saw it. But never mind. Harry says hes sorry. Nikki says sometimes you need to be angry to see things how they really are. I really do love her hair in that style, clipped up at the back. Maybe Ill try it out sometime. Anyway, Nikki thinks Simon is Pennys son, not her lover. Harry jumps to the conclusion that Simon must be his son.

Cool music plays while Harry goes around trying to find Simon. They really need to release a soundtrack of all the songs played on Silent Witness. Id buy it, even if no one else would. What is the song playing? If anyone knows, please, oh please, tell me! I love it. Harry eventually tracks Simon down at a party. What the hell does Simon think hes wearing?! Maybe he thinks he looks cool. He really doesnt look cool. Harry tells Simon that he was a friend of Penny, Simons mother. Simon says he wasnt the last person to see Penny alive. Simon also says that she went to see Max, to ask him for money for Simon. Simon thinks its all Maxs fault that Penny is dead. Harry says its always better if Simon talks to people, that he doesnt run away. I sense that perhaps Harry is talking from his own experiences. Harry tells Simon to call Ambrose. When Harry enquires about Simons father, Simon says he doesnt care about his father and that he doesnt want to know him. Harry then goes off and gets pissed in a bar all alone.

Simon rings Max and leaves a message on is answer phone, then drives off to Surrey to punish poor Max.

Leo and co. are dissecting the video. Leo spots a reflection in the glass: someone was with Jimmy when he died. The video was taken at 9:30, therefore the answer phone message was faked. Leo says the only person who could do all this stuff is Eggie Owen and his alibi is irrelevant because all the evidence is faked, so Jimmy could have been dead long before 3am.

Simon arrives at chez Wheaton. Then he gets shot. Its a very sad moment.

Leo and the annoying detective arrest Eggie, who says he did it all for art and now he and Jimmy will be famous. Yay, Eggie! But, really, no one gives a toss about this whole storyline, so lets just move on and get on with the interesting bit, shall we?

Max, meanwhile, is lying next to Simons body and crying. Nikki and Ambrose are called in. Theres a whole lot of blood on Simons clothes and a big whole in his torso. Ambrose says Max called the police himself and that the gun was his, but he didnt shoot Simon, honest. Nikki calls Harry and tells him to call her. Ambrose talks to Anne, who says she was out riding when it all happened. Her eyebrows amuse me somewhat: they seriously remind me of Stacy from Houses eyebrows (hers are always permanently raised too). Anne asks Nikki why Harry C is not there. Nikki says he cant be on this case.

Back at the lab, Harry tells Nikki that Simon is Pennys son and that Simon thought Max had something to do with Pennys death. Nikki tells Harry that Simon is dead, that he was shot at the Wheatons house. Harry goes to see Simons body, presumably because he still thinks Simon is his son, but needs a DNA test to prove it. Harry then sends off his DNA to be tested with Simons. Turns out Simon is not his son, thank God! I seriously wouldve written to the BBC if they decided to give Harry a son. Nikki and Harry then go off to watch Max being interviewed.

Max says a lot of things, which basically amount to him not shooting Simon. He then says that Simon was his son, and that he slept with Penny and Anne made Penny give Simon up for adoption. At first, I thought Penny was his daughter, which made me think ick quite a lot. But then I realised shes his step-daughter, so its all alright. Anyway, Penny had a breakdown because she was somewhat unstable. Penny wanted Max to give Simon money, wanted him to be part of the family. Max didnt mind; it was Anne who had all the objections. Penny was going to make the story public if they didnt agree. Harry calls him a bastard and hits the wall and cries. A lot. Its a very nice moment between him and Nikki when she holds him. Shes such a sympathetic person. Harry says shes so good always (because Nikki is basically just perfection personified). Nikki points out that women have been known to commit the odd sin. Harry then apparently has an epiphany and says yes, you have, havent you. And walks out, leaving Nikki behind with no clue as to where hes going. Again.

Leo does the autopsy on Simon. Apparently, Simon was shot from a range of about 10 feet. He also deduces that there was a very low angle to the gun i.e from the hip. Nikki interrupts to tell Leo that the pestle and mortar from the house was positive for Pennys anti-depressant. (You know, I did a search on the internet for the anti-depressant that Penny was taking to find out how to spell it, and couldn't find it anywhere. Presumably it is a real anti-depressant, right?)

Harry is driving to Surrey again when he receives a message from Nikki to tell him about the pestle and mortar. Anne lets him in and he tells her he is now on the case. He asks her for a glass of wine, which he then proceeds to drink rather quickly. Im sure one is supposed to savour wine. But he has another and then asks if she thinks hes over the limit. He then gets a bit angry and rants on and on and onI think what hes basically saying that Anne crushed up a load of anti-depressants and then let her drive. Which is basically murder, I think. As a random aside, I love Pennys necklace in the flashback. I saw one like it in New Look the other week, but didnt have enough money to buy it. Oh yes, and apparently Harry slept with Anne. Thats weird, sleeping with the mother of your girlfriend. Also, is Anne not a bit old for him? I really cannot imagine even an eighteen year old Harry sleeping with Anne. Harry says that in another life, he would have loved Penny better. Yes, but then he would never have met Nikki or at least, he would never have been able to snog Nikki in a pub and blatantly flirt with her in the pathology lab. So I think, all in all, hes better off.

Harry is back to being nice Harry. Nikkis hair is still awfully pretty. She is also wearing some very pretty clothes because shes off to a friends birthday party. And I love her boots. And I love the look on Harrys face. Its kinda obvious he wants to shag her there and then. And God, her top is hot. Not too sure about the belt though. Anyway, Harry is still doing eye!sex with her. Which is hot. And that ending (put together with the awesome beginning) goes a long way to making up for the rest of the episode. Mainly because its seriously hot.

To be quick about it:
Harry snogs Nikki. Which is hot. Harrys ex-girlfriend gets murdered. Which is not so hot. Subsequently, Harry is completely out of character and makes Nikki cry and least once or twice.
