Relax !!
Meditation without Relaxing the body ??   That is the main reason why most of our sadhakas do not get the desired results of sadhna soon.  Now-a-days the life has become so fast and so mechanical that our mind and body are always in tense condition, rather in a fighting mode with additional doses of adrenaline circulating in the body.  when Sadhna is done without relaxing the body first, the energies created by our sadhna are wasted in relaxing the various faculties of our self and we do not get desired results and are sometimes disappointed with our sadhna or we start thinking are we on right path.
When our great sages discovered various ways to reach God, or to see the ultimate Truth,  People were not leading a mechanical life.  Hence the meditational techniques mentioned by ancient sages were clearly without mention of Relaxing.  Though Some Pranayamas mentioned  in various books, do relax the body
and the brain, yet it is insufficient in todays fast world.  Psychiatrists have recently developed certain ways to relax the body and the mind.    I am mentioning hereunder some Relaxing techniques, used by Buddhist Monks, Tantriks or modern day psychiatirists.   If one could use any of these relaxing techniques before his proper sadhna, the amazing results will soon be noticed.
1- Bhastrika Pranayaama: - Sit in the normal Asana, with both palms on the knees.  Keep spine erect.  Notice your respiration for a few minutes and then start exhaling with jerks as if throwing the air out with force.  Do not inhale with any effort and let the air fill the lungs automatically.   Once the lungs are full  blow out the air with force again.   This should be intially done in such a way that your breathing becomes double of your normal breathing rate.  The rate of respiration can be increased slowly and carefully.  The ideal condition is achieved when one is exhaling like a steam engine throwing its steam while on a steep rail..  This exercies relaxes the body and brain within minutes and removes any tension prevailing.  But this pranayama can not be performed by those having heart or  respiratory problems.  Also it should be done under guidance of a teacher.
2- Tense & Go:   This technique is very simple but effective.  Sit in the normal asana.Close the eyes.  do not worry for the train of thoughts disturbing the peace.  Mentally visualise your left feet and command it to be tense and stiff.  Then go to the right feet and repeat the same command.  Physically follow your command and make the feet stiff and tense.  Slowly come up to calves, thighs, buttocks, stomach and chest by repeating the stiffing command and making them stiff..  then move to left hand and command it like wise and see that the left hand is actually stiff with fists forcefully closed, repeat with the right hand.  Command the jaws (and close the mouth forcefully-a little lesser than it pains).  then to eyes and brain.
Now see yr whole body  mentally seeing all parts in stiff condition.  If you find any area which is less stiff than the other, command it to be more tense.  Remain in this condition for 2 minutes and then command your brain and eyes to relax?and see that physicallly you do so.  Then mouth,  neck, shoulders, arms, chest?till feet.  Go slowly otherwise the desired effect will not be forthcoming.  Doing this exercise for 3 to 5 times before sadhna will remove all the tensions from the body and the mind and you will be doing your sadhna cheerfully.
3-The colored Rooms :-   Sit comfortable and take some deep breaths after closing your eyes.  Visualise you are standing before a closed door which is of Red color.  Open the door and enter?try to find a switch near the door and on it.  visualise that the whole room is filled with Red color.  The light bulb is of red color so is the paint on the wall.  the curtains are also of Red color.  Visualise a Red color Sofa lying in the middle of room, sit on the sofa and see around everything is red.  Now stand up ?see there is another door on the back of this room.  this door is Green.  Open the door and visualise the room in Green color as was done earlier.  The next room will be of Blue color?repeat all the visualisations and move on to next  room which is Yellow (Golden).  From Yellow move to a milky white room.  Visualise everything as shining milky white which is making your body as milky white colored.  Relax in the white sofa and have a little nap.   forget everything?and wake up when you need to..   This is a Tantrik Sadhna and works wonders on tense minds.  Even if one is not doing sadhna, this technique can be used for relaxing from daily life tensions.  (Do not alter the sequence of the colors)
4- The mysterious Tunnel :   Sit comfortably close your eyes and take deep breaths.  Focus your gaze on Agya Chakra (between eye brows on the forehead).  Visualise a long dark tunnel starting from your Agya chakra?.going deep into some unknown place.   visualise the opening of the tunnel?.very far ?so far that it looks like a small white dot.   Start walking into the tunnel?..feel the darkness around you?the dampness and the uneasy feelings in the tunnel?.but fix gaze at the opening?which is very far?.walk a little and then double your walking speed?.and then start running faster..and faster?.feel the walls of the tunnel going past you at great pace?..feel that the sparking tunnel end is reaching near you?.and increase your speed of running?..and finally you reach the end of the tunnel?..outside the opening you do not see anything but white sparkling milky white light?.just fall of the end of the tunnel into that loving ,warm and friendly white mist??do not wake up forcefully but enjoy for sometime?..
5- The swing method :    This method can be employed when one is very tired and have no feeling to do any meditation.  Lie down on the back , without a pillow and keep both your hands on the side of the body.  Take 5 deep breaths and relax the body?keeping it lose.  Mentally have a look on your feet and slowly come upwards seeing your whole body from feet to head and back to feet.  Do it 10 times?visualise you are lying on the top of a mountain??there is a tree near you and there is a swing on the tree.  the swing when rested is hanging on the navel of your bady a little up without touching it.   Visualise that the swing starts swinging.   Move your gaze with the swing?.visualise the swing goes past your feet ?comes down to yr navel and then goes upward beyond your head.   Visualise this for some 4/5 minuts.  Now feel youself sitting on the swing?and watching your body lying on the earth?..visualise how you pass your head and go towards feet.   Increase the speed of the swing.   Now it is going up on both sides?.on back side it is
almost touching the rocks  and on the feet side?.it goes up in the air?visualise a deep valley down the hill?..Now everytime you come towards feet and go upward ?u r almost in the air over the valley?try to visualise the valley?but u see nothing but darkness and some mist?down there?increase the speed of the swing?..keep the gaze on the head then on feet and then in the valley?.feel as if you are touched by very cold air when u r up above the valley?.do this swinging for 4/5 minutes?..Now when u pass the head body and feet and u r up in the air above the valley?.the swing stops for a fraction of a second preparing to come back??leave the ropes you are holding with you hands and jump down from the swing into the unknown misted valley?.feel as if you are going down?down and down?with chilling air cutting through your body making you numb and cold. forget everything?|f you fall into sleep it is ok if not wake up after 10 minutes?
This exercise is a great technique and is a sadhna in itself.   If done over the long period of time, it separates the astral body from the physical one?and  you can see the mysterious world of astral planes.
