| Donnie hunter an area that was above a thicket and below a burned out area. He heard something that sounded like two tree limbs rubbing together in the wind. Then up on the ridge, about 100 yards, he saw deer coming and found out the sound he had heard was a big buck grunting and it was following the does, (looked to be at least a 12 pointer). The buck ran a doe down the hill while the rest of the does came toward Donnie. The does saw Donnie and ran up the hill snorting. About that time he heard the big buck again and it was getting closer. At around 75 yards up in the burned out area, there he was... the big buck.. Donnie saw that they were fixing to leaving and knew it was now or never so he pulled the trigger on his Remington in-line. The rifle roared, the smoke blocked out the deer for a few seconds and the deer fell... "YES! I GOT ONE OF THE BIG BUCKS" Donnie hollered. It was rolling down the steep hillside and Donnie thought it was trying to get up so he ran toward it with his empty rifle in one hand and his Ruger .45 pistol ready for business in the other. He then looked back up on the ridge and there he was.... the big buck...still grunting. ...still running the doe about 100 yards away. He had killed a doe that was standing in front of the big buck when he shot. |
