| I hunted a new area today. One that I've been wanting to hunt for some time. I walked down through the field to the begining of the logged hardwoods and set up for awhile. I heard two bucks fighting below me in a stand of pines but couldn't see them and heard a buck grunt on the ridge to my right. Then from the ridge to my right at 8:45am a small 4 - 5 pointer came walking around the hill. I couldn't get a shot at it with my pistol so it went into the pines where the others were fighting earlier. I changed to another position and set up against a tree overlooking the bottom end of a field and the hardwoods around it. less than 30 minutes later a buck walked into the field and started feeding. It was coming around the ridge under me so I got ready with my pistol. The buck stopped behind a tree and stood there for what seamed like a long time. Then instead of walking in front of me he turned and started walking up the ridge. Since it was going away from me at over 50 yards I switched to my rifle and took a quick shot. The buck fell in it's tracks. When I got to him I found I had hit him in the spine and he was about dead. Then I had a problem, there was no way I could drag him back up the ridge where my truck was so I got Mike to come help me drag him down to the road. I checked him in and he is a 6 pointer that wighted 125 Lbs. My Kentucky is over except for the does with a bow. |
