Violet Eyes
Prologue
By Silent Stalker

DISCLAIMER: I don't own either Weiss Kreuz (How ever you pronounce it. I'm not German) or Gundam Wing (though I worship the people who do.) Please don't sue me for using them, all you'd get is some chocolate, and maybe you could pry from me my fanfiction notes. Also, I don't own Buffy the Vampire Slayer, some of which is quoted in here.

WARNINGS: The prologue is a bit messed up, so don't worry, it's not meant to make a lot of sense. There is some implied yaoi and definitely non-cannon pairings (If you can call fan-based whimsies, like 1x2, cannon. ::grin::)

AUTHOR'S NOTES: This takes place in an odd part of the continuity of both shows. In Gundam Wing, it's been 2 years since Mariemaya's uprising. In Weiss Kreuz, it's been about 3 years since the end of the series with the whole immortality crap with Schwartz and Aya-chan and all. Bear in mind that I haven't seen the end of the series yet (my friend is loaning me her VCD's) so I'm taking mondo liberties with WK. My own version of the end of the series will come out in this story, but don't flame me for screwing with it, k?

It's been 7 years. 7 years since I had set eyes on anyone in my family, 7 years since I was home, 7 years since I was happy. Well, I was never happy. But that's another story. Oh wait, it's THIS story. He he. Oops. Anyway, as I was saying, I left home 7 years ago. Actually, I was forced from it when I went to get revenge on the people who killed my parents. They got the last laugh however. They sent me away, sent me here to this god-awful place with their horrid war, which when my benefactor discovered I had the odd ability to pilot large mecha, I was forced to fight in. I made the mistake of telling him where I came from however, and he in turn told 4 others, who found 4 like me to fight by my side. I never told them I knew. And now I was leaving for good. For the Good Doctor was kind enough to die and leave all his files on a computer in a lab on earth. They were horribly encrypted of course, not that that deterred me. I was one of the 5 best hackers known to man. And I had found the blueprints to make the machine that would take me home . . .

"Chang here." Wufei barked out as he answered his vidphone. Very few people actually had the phone number, so he knew the one who was calling wouldn't be caught unawares by his gruff tone.

"Wufei, this is Quatre. Heero says he needs to see all of us at Preventors HQ immediately. Something about a top-secret lab being found and broken into. He wouldn't tell me more, merely instructed me to get a hold of you guys." Quatre's brow furrowed with worry as he remembered the furious countenance of the Wing Pilot. Something had gotten by Heero and the Perfect Soldier was Perfectly Pissed.

"If Yuy says this is an emergency, then I am on my way, Winner. Expect my jet at the port in 2 hours." Wufei reached up and clicked off the vidphone knowing that Quatre would understand. In an emergency, there wasn't enough time for pointless goodbyes anyway. He would see the blond in 2 hours.

Heero Yuy glared at the few people assembled around him. Trowa Barton, sitting on the desk in the corner, casually flipping a knife. Quatre Winner, fidgeting nervously and clutching the back of Heero's chair. Chang Wufei lounging slightly against the door, his posture screaming tension. Heero's glare intensified as he realized he was missing one person.

"Where the hell is Duo, Quatre," he growled.

"You know as well as I do that no one has been able to contact him in a year and a half, Heero!" Quatre snapped back. He was correct. No one had been able to get a hold of the grinning boy in the almost two years since the Mariemaya coup. Since he walked out of their lives and didn't look back. They hadn't even been able to find out where he was staying. Then again, if Duo didn't want to be found, no one was going to find him.

"I'm sorry, Quatre, I'm just a little on edge." His apology was honest and simple; something that would have shocked the ex-pilots, had they not seen the change the past year had wrought in the boy. "This concerns him as well, but we'll just have to go on without him. I'll get straight to the point. For the past 3 years I have been monitoring the lab where the Mad Five were last together. It is a lab here on earth. I went in myself, and planted mikes and cameras where even the most experienced soldier wouldn't be able to find them. However, early this morning, my computer beeped and began feeding me live pictures of someone small in the lab. Specifically, in the area belonging to G, Duo's patron. Also, the mike's picked up someone humming softly. I don't recognize the tune, but it reminded me of something I heard Duo sing once. So I looked it up. It's a song from an ancient earth show, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". The ditty is called 'Hush'. That seemed to be of no significance, so I continued to monitor the intruder all morning. Whoever it is has accessed G's computer system, and has been in the lab all morning, building something."

Trowa whistled softly. "So you think this person found something on G's computer and now they're building it?"

"Correct. And if it came from one of the Mad Five's computers, or if relevant information was found on those computers after I scoured them, I dread to know what it is. So we need to go in, get this person and stop whatever the hell they're doing. I just know it can't be good."

Wufei crept around the corner in the lab, looking out for the person. So far, Yuy had said there was only one according to the cameras, and they still hadn't come out of the lab. However, all of the lights in the building were dark and yet the person had been able to sneak around in the complete dark, and so avoided the cameras. All they picked up was a shadowy figure. Wufei was wary, and new that the other three in here with him were wary as well. They had agreed to surround the lab by going in from different doors, and forcing the person into surrender. 2 minutes, until he stepped out of the shadows.

Faint humming could be heard as he crept closer. Indeed, it was the song Maxwell used to sing incessantly during the war, especially during battles. It had annoyed him to no end, more so now that he remembered the lyrics.

Can't even shout
Can't even cry
The gundam boys are coming by
Looking in windows
Knocking on doors
They're gonna take many
And they might take yours
Can't call to Mom
Can't say a word
You're gonna die screaming
But you won't be heard.

Of course, that was Maxwell's edited version of it. But it didn't matter to Wufei, who grit his teeth angrily as the song got stuck in continuous loop in his head. In the echo-y lab, he didn't recognize the voice, not that he expected to. This person was seriously annoying him. He saw Yuy and Trowa move into position across the blackened room from him, and felt Winner next to him. Just as he was about to lower his gun at the figure in dark clothes in the center, a greenish glow illuminated the whole room.

The person stepped back from the glowing green vortex they had created and Wufei finally recognized the person. By Winner's gasp next to him, he saw realized as well. There was no mistaking that long rope of hair, or the hands-on-hips, feet-apart stance. Duo grinned, looking feral in the odd light. Yuy's gun clattered to the floor as he reeled in shock across the way. He saw too.

Duo whirled at the noise, violet eyes glaring in anger and frustration. How dare someone follow him in here! No one was going to take this from him! A figure stepped from the shadow into the light of the temporal door and said his name in cautious tones.

"Maxwell?? Is that you?" It was Wufei. And if Wufei had been standing in the dark, then it was well over the mere possibility range that there were others with him. Duo's eyes quickly sought out and found 3 other people in the dark around him. Quatre, Heero and Trowa.

Duo didn't deign fit to reply, merely pursed his lips in anger. They had no business in here. And by the drawn weapon in Wufei's hand, they were here to stop him. He gave a sharp bark of laughter, tinged with Hysteria.

The machine at his feet, the one creating the temporal door, the one he had so painstakingly put together with odd parts around the lab and so carefully loaded the coordinates and date, began to sputter and emit sparks. No! This was his one chance to return home and damned if he wasn't going to take it. If the machine broke, he wasn't sure he would be able to fix it.

"I'm sorry," he murmured. Wufei looked at him oddly; right before deafening cacophony of noises, an odd mixture of a million voices and everyday sounds, overloaded his brain and he collapsed to the floor in pain. Through blurry eyes, he watched his 3 teammates do the same and the machine at Duo's feet begin to break out in small fires. He watched as Duo glanced down alarmed, and slipped backwards, into the green portal. The second he was gone, the noise in Wufei's head died, leaving behind a huge migraine. Moments later, what remained of the machine exploded.

"What the hell just happened?" he muttered. But silence in the dark lab was his only answer.

Nagi sat straight up in bed, gasping for breath. Beside him, his lover murmured in his sleep and shifted closer to the younger telekinetic. Nagi looked down, memorizing the porcelain features of the pale face below. A gentle knocking on the door drew him from his thoughts and he crawled out of bed, careful not to wake the other occupant. He wouldn't take to being woken in the middle of the night very well.

He slipped out the door and went into the kitchen of the shared apartment. Schuldig sat at the table, his face in his hands. He looked up at the boy as Nagi poured himself and the telepath a glass of milk and snagged some cookies off the top of the fridge. Nagi set the snacks on the table and sat down across from the redhead.

"You were dream projecting," Schuldig stated. "I didn't see the dream, but I got full force of the emotions. Was it that bad?"

"Well, you got about as much as I did. All it was, was a swirl of colors and feelings. And the inexplicable urge to go up to the old vacation house, north of Tokyo." Nagi replied, dunking a cookie and taking a bite.

"Scheist," the German muttered. "Then I did see your dream. Not intentionally, I promised you I wouldn't do that again, but I saw it all the same."

"So do we go?"

"Go?"

"To the house. There's something there or nearby that's calling us. Or at least me. Do we go?"

"Why not. Farf going?"

"He's got the shop to run. I'll tell him in the morning, and I know we won't be gone more then a couple of days. He'll have the other guys to amuse him."

Schuldig laughed, put his glass in the sink and walked back down the hall to his bedroom. It was lonely alone, but his own lover had "things to do" that night. Nagi did the same, and crawled back in bed with his boyfriend. Said boyfriend muttered and wrapped himself around the smaller boy. Nagi smiled and slipped back into a dreamless sleep.

End Notes: There the prologue of my really weird story. I know I'm not giving away just who Nagi and Schuschu are paired with, but I'm doing that on purpose. The WK fans out there might be able to tell who Nagi's lover is by guessing.
[1] 'Hush' is from the Buffy episode season 5, "Hush". IMHO, one of the best Buffy episodes written. Even if it did have that bastard Riley in it. Man, I really hated him. Anyway, you can get the real lyrics to 'Hush' here: http://lavender.fortunecity.com/rampling/271/Guide/hush.html
But watchout. This page is for spoilers for the episode, so if you don't like that don't go there. Not that my lyrics are that much different.
